2024 INTRAMURAL SOFTBALL RULES
1. General Guidelines
• Team Composition: Each team must have at least 8 players on the field to start/play and can have up to 16 players on the roster. Teams are encouraged to have a mix of genders with 10 players max on the field.
• Equipment: Players should use appropriate softball gear. Softballs, bats, and other equipment should be provided by the league. Personal equipment must be inspected and approved for safety.
2. Game Structure
• Duration: Games will be played for 7 innings or until the time limit (typically 1 hour) is reached. The game can end early if a team is ahead by 15 runs after 5 innings.
• Start Time: Games should start promptly at the scheduled time. Teams must be ready to play at the start time.
3. Field Rules
• Base Distance: Standard base distances are used. Bases are 60 feet apart, and the pitcher's mound is 46 feet from home plate.
• Pitching: Underhand pitching only. The pitch should be delivered with a straight arm and from a position that does not involve any undue advantage.
• Outfield: Outfielders must stay behind the baseline until the ball is hit.
4. Gameplay Rules
• Batting Order: Teams must submit a batting order before the game starts.
Players must bat in the order submitted.
• Substitution: Players can be substituted in and out of the game freely, but once a player is removed from the game, they cannot re-enter.
• Base Running: Stealing bases is not allowed. Runners must remain in contact with the base until the ball is hit. Sliding is permitted but must be done safely to avoid collisions.
• Count: Each batter starts with a 1-1 count (one ball, one strike).

• Mercy Rule: If a team is ahead by 15 or more runs after 5 innings, the game is considered complete and the leading team is declared the winner.
7. Conduct and Sportsmanship
• Respect: Players are expected to demonstrate respect for teammates, opponents, umpires, and the game itself.
• Behavior: Unsportsmanlike conduct, including arguing with umpires or opposing players, will not be tolerated and may result in ejection from the game or league.

8. Safety
