About this file

This is a technical specification document issued by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) for the procurement of dump truck bodies with slope front designs in three capacity sizes: 6, 12, and 16 cubic yards. The specification (SCDOT Spec. No. B111.05) establishes comprehensive requirements for heavy-duty bodies and hoist assemblies designed for highway maintenance applications, including stone, dirt, and asphalt handling, as well as snow removal operations with tailgate and hopper-type material spreader installations. The document details exact dimensional requirements for each body size, with inside widths of 87 inches and floor lengths ranging from 114 to 192 inches depending on capacity. All bodies must be constructed from 3/16-inch AR450 steel with AR450 material specifications for sides, floors, fenders, and tailgates, and incorporate advanced features including electric tarp systems, telescopic hydraulic hoists, and integrated safety systems. The hoist systems are rated to NTEA standards with minimum specifications of Class 80 (16 tons) for 6-cubic-yard bodies, Class 90 (23 tons) for 12-cubic-yard bodies, and Class 110 (29 tons) for 16-cubic-yard bodies.

The specification requires manufacturers to provide complete assemblies with hydraulic tanks (21 gallons minimum for 6- and 12-cubic-yard bodies, 30 gallons for 16-cubic-yard models), advanced filtration systems, and integrated cab controls for multiple functions including body raising/lowering, tailgate operation, tarp systems, snowplow operation, and salt spreader control. All units must be finished in gloss black paint or powder coating suitable for heavy-duty highway service and delivered with illustrated parts books, installation manuals, and service literature. A pilot body and hoist must be furnished for Department evaluation before production authorization, and all subsequent units must incorporate approved changes from pilot testing. Manufacturers must provide a minimum twelve-month warranty from in-service date and comply with OSHA standards, while bidders are required to submit complete sales literature, specifications, questionnaires, and identify any deviations from stated specifications. Components must be packaged individually by unit rather than in bulk, and the bodies are designed for installation on current-model-year Mack Granite chassis with specified transmission options.
