About this file
This document contains detailed specifications for truck bodies from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), covering three primary categories: platform bodies (8-14 feet), platform dump bodies (14 feet), and utility bodies (1/2-1 1/2 ton). The specifications detail construction requirements, dimensions, materials, equipment standards, and performance criteria for highway maintenance applications with expected lifecycles of 10-15+ years. Platform bodies are available in five sizes (8, 9, 12, 12 heavy-duty, and 14 heavy-duty feet) designed for trucks ranging from 3/4-ton to 5-ton capacity, while platform dump bodies are specifically configured for 14-foot heavy-duty applications on Ford F-650/750 chassis with Allison transmissions. Utility bodies accommodate eight different truck sizes from 1/2-ton to 1 1/2-ton vehicles with Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, or GMC chassis. All specifications require galvanized or high-tensile steel construction, comprehensive lighting packages meeting DOT/FMVSS regulations, petroleum-based undercoating, and gloss black or white paint finishes. Optional equipment includes retractable access ladders, dump hoists (NTEA Class C for platform bodies and Class E for 14-foot dump bodies), and installation services.
Bidders must submit complete illustrated catalog data sheets, manufacturer specifications, completed questionnaires, and detailed deviations from specifications with their bids. Each bidder is required to furnish a pilot model for SCDOT approval before full production, with the contract potentially subject to termination if the pilot model is deemed unacceptable. All units must include unique manufacturer serial numbers, 12-month warranties against defects in materials and workmanship starting from the in-service date, and service literature including illustrated parts books and installation manuals in CD format when available. Two additional copies of service literature must be provided to SCDOT's Director of Supply and Equipment. The specifications note that during the contract period, separate state contracts for truck chassis-cabs may result in different year models and manufacturers, and these changes should not significantly impact the body contract. Bidders must ensure all submission materials are accurate and complete, as any deviations not clearly identified will be considered strict compliance with specifications, making the successful bidder fully responsible for performance.
