About this file
This is a Qualified Product List (QPL) document issued by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) on August 11, 2020, establishing approved spray-on and brush-on surface coatings for concrete finish applications on bridge projects, including Bridge D5 in Dillon County. The QPL specifies products across three primary categories: non-cementitious solventborne spray-on coatings, waterborne spray-on coatings, and cementitious brush-on coatings, all of which must meet SCDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction. Approved manufacturers include BASF Corporation, Sherwin-Williams, VEXCOM Chemicals, The Euclid Chemical Company, ProSpec America, Dayton Superior Chemical Corporation, MAPEI, Clemons Concrete Coatings, and others, with specific trade name products listed for each category. The document provides manufacturer contact information and sales representatives for each qualified product.
The QPL establishes critical curing requirements for concrete before coating application, ranging from immediate application (for products with Note 1) to 28 days minimum cure time (for products with Note 4), with alternative wet curing methods or specific curing compounds permitted for delayed applications. No pricing information, set-asides, or funding details are included in this qualification document. Contractors bidding on the Bridge D5 project must select products exclusively from this approved list and comply with the specified curing protocols and accelerated weathering testing requirements. SCDOT contact for technical clarification is Caleb Gunter, PE Structural Materials Engineer, at (803) 737-6694 or guntercb@scdot.org.
