About this file
This document is the Scope of Work for the replacement of the Wild Boar Hollow Boat Dock in the Mark Twain National Forest. The project requires the contractor to remove the existing 56-foot dock, furnish and install a new 12'x24' floating ADA-accessible boat dock, and connect it to the existing stiff arm and dock ramp. The new dock must meet specific design requirements for dead and live loads, flotation, and galvanized steel construction. The contractor has 90 days to complete the work after contract award, and must comply with all federal and state safety and environmental regulations. A pre-work conference and submittal review process are required prior to construction. The basis of payment is lump sum upon final acceptance of the completed work.

The complete system shall be designed and stamped by a Professional Engineer registered in the state of Missouri.
PART 2 - SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 DOCK AND RAMP
A site visit is strongly encouraged for the contractor to ensure working conditions, verify all square footages, lengths, and dimensions. It is the contractor's responsibility to verify and ensure all material calculations in order to meet this specification.
The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and incidentals necessary to complete the removal of exiting dock, furnishing and installation of a new floating dock complete with deck, frames, floats, handrails, bumpering, bridges, and shore column shown on the plans and according to the specifications.
The contractor will be providing:
1. Removing and disposing of existing 56’ long by 6’ wide dock and hardware.
2. Furnishing and installing a floating ADA accessible roughly 12'x24' dock with stiff-arm anchorage.

PART 3 - EXECUTION OF WORK
3.1 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
VERTICAL LOADS
A. Dead loads shall consist of the entire weight of the floating structure, including bridge, handrails and other appurtenances.
B. Deck surface and structural frame live load shall be equal to 50 PSF applied to the full surface area of the deck.
C. Substructure designed (Ultimate Strength) to support full live load across a thirty (30 ft.
span. (Calculated to be maximum wave, crest to crest, on most inland lakes.)
D. Bridges, ramps and walkways designed to support 50 PSF. Bridge handrails shall be designed for a 200 pound load applied in any direction and at any point along the handrail.
E. Flotation deck shall be designed to support the dead load plus 30 PSF live load applied to the full surface area of the courtesy dock. Flotation shall be adequate to maintain a uniform freeboard over the entire deck.
F. Adjustable bridge float and additional flotation on the shore side of the dock shall be designed to support the dead load of 40' of the 80' bridge plus live load.

Flotation units shall be designed to maintain their desired buoyancy and freeboard even if structurally damaged (i.e. broken in half). Connections of flotation units shall be designed so that the floating dock acts as a unit, so that one unit does not deflect without adjacent units deflecting and no vertical slip occurs between units when deflecting.
3. DECK MATERIAL
The dock deck and bridge deck material shall consist marine grade non-slip/antiskid PVC boards per drawing specifications. Colors and textures to be approved by COR.
4. BUMPERING/RUB-RAIL

8. FABRICATION
All deck and railing modular units shall be shop welded as shown on the drawings.
Welding shall conform to the requirements of the American Welding Society. Welds shall be a solid and homogenous part of the metals joined and shall be free from pits or scale, and shall be full areas and length required to develop the required strength for the intended use.
All connections between modular deck sections shall occur below the deck level. All bolts, nuts and washers shall be sat square with connecting structural members and drawn tight. Lock washers or other devices shall be used to prevent nuts from loosening after properly tightened. All fasteners shall be galvanized.
If any drilling or cutting of steel is necessary after galvanizing, the exposed areas shall be painted with a high zinc dust content paint. All welds over galvanized material shall be thoroughly cleaned and coated with two coats cold galvanizing compound.
9. WORKMANSHIP
Workmanship shall be first class in all respects and any materials not representing a finished and acceptable product will be rejected.
All finished steel members shall be free from twists, bends, distortions, and open joints.
All steel construction shall be free of sharp edges and burrs; ends of exposed steel members shall be rounded or beveled, and all coping and mitering shall be done with care. Projecting materials and burrs, which would prevent bearing of the various members on each other, shall be removed.
