About this file

This file contains the Project Abstract Summary Requirement for the Department of the Interior's financial assistance awards, mandated by OMB Memoranda M-21-20 and M-22-02 to ensure complete and accurate award descriptions in USAspending.gov. Applicants must submit a Project Abstract Summary not to exceed one page (~4,000 characters) in 12-point Times New Roman font alongside their proposal via Grants.gov. The abstract must include plain language descriptions of the project title, award purpose (avoiding acronyms and agency-specific terminology), activities to be performed, deliverables and expected outcomes, intended beneficiaries, and any known subrecipient activities. Upon award issuance, the Project Abstract Summary will be made publicly available on USAspending.gov.

For the associated Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) opportunity focused on chronic wasting disease (CWD) management, the U.S. Geological Survey is funding research to develop decision support tools for long-term CWD management planning across northeastern and western U.S. regions. The project aims to refine model-based estimates of disease introduction rates, evaluate surveillance strategies, and distribute management tools to natural resource agencies. Eligible recipients must be participating partners of the Pacific Northwest CESU Program. Awards are issued under CFDA 15.808 (U.S. Geological Survey Research and Data Collection); recent award cadence shows 13 awards through March 2026, with typical award values ranging from $30,000 to $500,000, and multi-year agreements exceeding $2 million. Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov using Standard Form (SF) 424, with typical review periods of 3 to 6 months and preapplication coordination required.
