About this file

This file is a template requirement document for Project Abstract Summaries mandated by the Office of Management and Budget for Department of the Interior financial assistance awards. Applicants must submit a one-page Project Abstract Summary (approximately 4,000 characters maximum, 12-point Times New Roman font) alongside their Grants.gov proposal that includes: project title, plain language description of the award purpose (avoiding acronyms and agency-specific terminology), activities to be performed, deliverables and expected outcomes, intended beneficiaries, and subrecipient activities if applicable. Upon award issuance, this Project Abstract Summary will be publicly available at USAspending.gov to satisfy federal transparency requirements under OMB Memoranda M-21-20 and M-22-02.

The related federal grant opportunity is a Cooperative Agreement issued by the U.S. Geological Survey under CFDA 15.808 (U.S. Geological Survey Research and Data Collection) for the Great Lakes-Northern Forest CESU Program. The project focuses on developing, evaluating, and synthesizing national-scale biogeographic information for fish and aquatic organisms through three technical areas: advancing statistical methods for species distribution models, evaluating habitat model accuracy and uncertainty, and applying artificial intelligence tools to assemble species trait and conservation status information. Eligibility is restricted to participating partners of the Great Lakes-Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit. The opportunity supports Department of the Interior strategic objectives related to land and water conservation, ecological data improvement, and cooperative stewardship aligned with Executive Order 14303 and related strategic objectives. Award sizes in this program typically range from $30,000 to over $2 million, with recent CESU solicitations having 30 to 45-day application windows and 3 to 6-month notification timelines.
