About this file
This file is a template establishing requirements for project abstract summaries in response to a Cooperative Agreement opportunity for the Great Lakes - Northern Forest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) affiliated partner program. The funding opportunity, administered by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) under CFDA 15.808 (Research and Data Collection), targets wildlife disease molecular diagnostic testing and parasitology capacity building at the USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC). The project aims to strengthen parasitology diagnostic services to support wildlife health surveillance, national security, and public safety while aligning with Executive Order 14239 on state-federal preparedness coordination and state readiness for high-consequence parasitic diseases. Eligible applicants are restricted to CESU partners, with typical application deadlines 30 to 45 days from posting and award notifications issued by USGS contracting officers following scientific review. Recent awards under this program range from $30,000 to over $2.7 million for multi-year agreements, though 2026 award cadence has notably slowed.
The project abstract summary serves as a required application component that must comply with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards) and 2 CFR Part 1402 (Department of the Interior regulations). Applications must be submitted through Grants.gov using Standard Form (SF) 424, with preapplication coordination required. The template guides applicants in documenting their proposed work to strengthen NWHC's capacity to detect, characterize, and monitor parasitic diseases in wildlife, generate reference data, and share expertise with federal, state, Tribal, and partner organizations to support wildlife conservation on DOI lands and waters.
