About this file

This document is a requirement specification for Project Abstract Summaries mandated by the Department of the Interior for all financial assistance awards under OMB Memoranda M-21-20 and M-22-02. The Project Abstract Summary must be submitted alongside proposals via Grants.gov and will be made publicly available on USAspending.gov upon award issuance. The summary must be organized into six required sections: project title, award purpose (in plain language without acronyms), activities to be performed, deliverables and expected outcomes, intended beneficiaries, and subrecipient activities if applicable. The document specifies a one-page maximum length of approximately 4,000 characters using 12-point Times New Roman font.

This requirement applies to the cooperative agreement opportunity offered by the USGS Alaska Science Center for research on polar bear abundance estimation and harvest risk assessment for the Southern and Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulations. The project will utilize an integrated population model incorporating western science and Indigenous Knowledge, supported by 20+ years of USGS polar bear population dynamics data. The research aims to improve assessments of polar bear vital rates and trends to support sustainable harvest management by the USFWS and co-management entities. The opportunity targets CESU partners with experience in polar bear population dynamics research and falls under the USGS Research and Data Collection program (CFDA 15.808).
