CONVENTIONAL ASTRO K-CORE

(POLICE SERVERROOM)

The core site is the central point for all system traffic. Call processing and system management occur at the core site. Centralized management helps fine-tune network performance, minimize costly field visits, and keep the system running with minimal effort from administrative staff.

The current K-Core on VAMC Long Beach is on a release (7.13) that is no longer supported and needs to be upgraded to provide a reliable and secure radio system.

The K-Core configuration offers a single–site gateway that functions as both a site gateway and a conventional channel gateway. The site controller, site gateway, core LAN switch, and backhaul switch are non–reparable in this configuration.

Below are detailed descriptions of the ASTRO 25 K-Core hardware components VA LB seeks:

● Common Server Architecture: Common Server Architecture (CSA) employs server applications with the Linux/Windows operating system on the HP DL380 Virtual Management Server (VMS) host. VMware supports the server applications in a Virtual Machine (VM) environment. These system configurations use local hard drive storage for servers.

● DSC 8000 Conventional Site Controller: The DSC 8000 Conventional Site Controller is used in ASTRO 25 systems as the main call controller in K-Cores. The DSC 8000 Conventional Site Controller platform replaces the GCP 8000 Conventional Site Controller and provides its full call processing functionality. It can support the full set of dispatch consoles, archiving interface servers, and conventional gateways when the Zone Controller is not available. The DSC 8000 controller contains a server and an embedded LANswitch providing more processing power and additional ports. The DSC 8000 controller uses an external power supply for AC operations. The DSC 8000 controller has enhanced security capabilities and a refreshed configuration interface to streamline.

● SRX 1500 Gateway Router: The Core Gateway Router is used for devices that forward packets beyond their local LAN. The gateways perform the routing control of audio, data, and network management traffic in and out of the zone, replicating packets while achieving the fast access levels required by real-time voice systems. The core site audio, data, and control equipment interfaces to the dispatch sites, via the LAN switch through the Core Gateway.

● Aruba 2930 LAN Switch: The Core LAN Switch aggregates all the Ethernet interfaces for all services, clients, and gateways at the core site.

● Aruba 2930 Backhaul Switch: The Core Backhaul switch provides connectivity to remote RF and Dispatch sites.

List of Equipment required for K-Core in the Police Server Room:

● 1 DSC 8000 Site Controller

● 1 SRX 1500 Juniper Router

● 1 Aruba Core LAN Switch

● 1 Aruba Backhaul LAN Switch

● 1 HPDL 380 Core Server

● 1 Fiber Converter Module

● 1 EATON Rackmount UPS

ASTRO RF SITE REPEATER/BASE RADIO SITE

(BLDG1-315A)

The current GTR 8000 Conventional channels on the VAMC Long Beach Radio System are still supported and will continue to be used. The proposed upgrade will include a software upgrade to the latest certified release. The configuration of the existing GTR 8000 channels should not be changed and should interface to the K-Core system.

In addition, to provide additional attenuation to the existing RF Site, External Dual Circulators Should be included for each GTR 8000 channel. This option is recommended when channels are near each other in the same band without the use of a cavity combiner. The external dual circulator option provides 2 additional circulators and a low pass filter in a 2 RU tray. This option should provide additional transmitter intermodulation attenuation. It is useful at VA Long Beach which has other transmitters when the GTR 8000 Base Radio connects directly to a transmit antenna or duplexer. The assembly includes an input cable that connects directly to the output of the GTR 8000 Base Radio. No field tuned or alignment is possible or required.

Network equipment for the RF Site requires hardware to be upgraded to the latest supported equipment with compatibility with the K-Core. These upgrades do not change the interface back to the K-Core.

List of Equipment required for the RF Site in BLDG 1- 315A:

● 4 GTR 8000 Software upgrades

● 4 GTR 8000 Dual External Circulators

● 1 Aruba LAN Switch

● 1 MCG 8000 CCGW

● 1 SRX 345 Juniper Router

● 1 EATON Rackmount UPS

MCC 7500E DISPATCH CONSOLE

(DISPATCH BLDG5C)

The government requires the Motorola Solutions MCC 7500E dispatch console to provide VAMC Long Beach with the confidence of state-of-the-art secure communications, seamless IP-based connectivity, flexible system architecture with scalable components, and centralized console management.

This will replace the existing VPM-based MCC 7500 Dispatch positions. The MCC 7500E provides the same user experience as the VPM-based console so no additional training is required.

The MCC7500E Dispatch Consoles will connect to the K-Core in the Police Server Room in the same manner as the existing Dispatch Consoles do today.

List of Equipment required for the Dispatch Consoles in Dispatch BLDG 5C:

● 2 Command Central Hubs (Client PCs)

● 2 TechGlobal 22” Monitors

● Replace Dispatch Console Accessories for each position. (Our existing can also be reused)

INTEROPERABILITY INTEGRATION

(BLDG126)

An additional APX Consolette should be included to provide an additional resource for interoperability to local agencies. The included Consolotte shall be equipped with similar capabilities as the existing Consolettes. The Consolette includes an antenna and antenna subsystem similar to what exists today with the existing Consolettes.

There are two existing Dual Band APX Consolettes in BLDG 126 that have never been used. Vendor shall include software upgrades to these Consolettes to allow for the ability to interoperate with local radio resources. The Consolettes are both already equipped with an antenna. The vendor should leverage the existing antenna setup for these Consolettes. In addition, an MCG 8000 CCGW should be included to provide the Consolettes an interface to the K-Core. This will allow a dispatcher to patch, participate in and monitor conversations for the duration of the incident, as necessary.

There currently is a fiber run from this location back to the Police Server Room. Included should be a Fiber Converter module to establish a Fiber to Ethernet conversion to connect to the K-Core Core LAN Switch.

List of Equipment required for the Interoperability Consolettes in BLDG 126:

● 1 APX Consolette with Antenna System

● 1 MCG 8000 CCGW

● 1 Fiber Converter Module

NICE RADIO LOGGER

(POLICE SERVERROOM)

The proposed solution should include the upgrade of the existing NICE Radio Logger. This includes an upgrade of the 10-channel MCC7500 IP radio logger from v7.16 to A2022/NIR9.x. The existing G9 servers should be replaced with two G10 servers: the first will host the logging solution and a second Logger Backup Server (LBS) will be used for the backup of the SQL database, audio archive, and Inform. The logging server will be loaded with the latest NIR9 Core software. Both servers will be deployed on the RNI and will have Windows O/S 2016. New audio will be archived to the G10 LBS on the RNI. Inform Lite 7.X will be upgraded to Professional R10 and will reside on the new G10 LBS.

This solution should also include moving the Logger to the same room as the K-Core in the Police Server Room. This will allow for recordings to be easily accessible for both audio playback and sharing.

In addition, the existing MCC 7500 AIS VPM will be software upgraded and reused for Radio recording to the NICE Logger. The current AIS PC shall be upgraded to a new certified PC.

List of Equipment required for the NICE Logger in the Police Server Room:

● 1 NICE ASTRO Logger Server

● 1 NICE ASTRO Logger Backup Server
