Statement of Work

Subject: Exhaust fan replacement and hood extension in welding shop

The Iron River National Fish Hatchery (NFH) maintenance shop is outfitted with welders, torches, cutters, sanders and other pieces of equipment that produces fumes and airborne particles. The current exhaust system is under-powered, and the hood is small and poorly designed. These flaws do not allow for proper circulation of air and removal of fumes and particles created during fabrication processes. The Iron River NFH requests an upgrade for the exhaust fan with fabrication and installation of a welding hood extension. Specifications are as follows:

1. Remove, dispose of, and replace existing exhaust fan with a single width utility set fan, clockwise rotation, top-horizontal, size 16, single phase, 2 HP, 2” external static pressure rating, 2500 CFM minimum fan. Integrate new fan into existing duct work and electrical circuit.

2. Fabricate a 72” long x 48” wide x 24” high, three-sided welding hood extension with top using 20-gauge galvanized Sheetmetal (see diagram).

Bend in bottom and corners of hood extension to equal 1” by ½” lip. (see diagram)

Cut off east end of existing hood and dispose.

Rivet open side of hood extension to east end of existing extension using one-inch tabs to match existing hood.

Mount hood extension to concrete wall using three equally spaced ¼” thick, 2” wide angle iron gusseted brackets on top of hood and at least four equally spaced anchors on the inside of hood extension.

3. Paint exterior of hood extension and brackets white.

Clean the surface with warm or hot soapy water.

Rinse with water and let completely dry.

Polish the metal with ammonia and sand any rough areas.

Apply one coat of a non-alkyd, adhesive primer such as XIM UMA from Rust-Oleum or equivalent Apply two coats of white paint formulated for use on metal.

4. Mount and energize existing welding bench light to inside of welding hood per instructions from Hatchery staff.

5. Add additional matching welding outlet to existing welding outlet circuit, location to be selected by Hatchery staff.

6. Work shall be done in accordance with State and Local Codes and 2017 National Electrical Code.
