About this file

This Statement of Work details NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's requirement for a Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme (or equivalent) nanoindenter system. The procurement includes the primary iX05 nanoindenter with high-resolution capabilities for micro- and nanomechanical testing, featuring a force range of 0.1nN to 2N, displacement range of 5pm to 20μm, and a dedicated vacuum chamber. Additional components include multiple Microforce Sensing Probes with different force ranges (20 mN, 200 mN, 2 N), a Scratch Testing Module, a Low-Temperature Module enabling testing from room temperature to -150°C, and a computer system.

The solicitation requires delivery within 20 weeks after receipt of order, with product installation and training to be completed within 2 days of delivery. The system will enable NASA to measure near-surface mechanical properties at high lateral resolution, create material property maps, and conduct tests under various conditions simulating space and lunar environments. The procurement includes a 12-month warranty, lifetime remote technical support, and unlimited software installation and updates. Quotes are due by 12:00 PM EST on 4/1/2025, with the award to be made to the lowest-priced technically acceptable vendor meeting the specified requirements.

Statement of Work

Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme Brand Name or Equal

1. Objective/Requirements

This requirement is for the acquisition of Femto Tools iX05 Femto-Indenter Extreme Brand Name or Equal for NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) to measure near-surface mechanical properties at high lateral resolution.

2. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The purpose of this procurement is to acquire a nanoindenter that will allow measure of near-surface mechanical properties at high lateral resolution, to create property maps of material surfaces; these maps are helpful in explaining tribological performance of these materials. A vacuum and low temperature capability will allow measurements at conditions close to those that exist in space and on the lunar surface. This will allow NASA to measure local mechanical properties in real-world conditions such as high temperatures, low temperatures, high strain rates, or in liquid environments.

The contractor shall meet or exceed the following specifications:
