Ottawa National Forest – Silver Branch Plant Survey 3
SCHEDULE OF ITEMS
Ottawa NF. Ontonagon, Houghton, and Iron Counties Kenton, Ontonagon, and Watersmeet Ranger Districts
The USDA Forest Service is seeking botanist contractors to survey 350 stands for rare plants on the east side of the Ottawa National Forest in 2026 and 2027. The 350 stands total 7,992 acres.
Most of the stands are mesic northern forest. Some are early successional, with a canopy of quaking aspen and/or balsam fir. Many are late successional, with a canopy of sugar maple, red maple, hemlock, basswood, yellow birch, and other species. Wetland edges and inclusions are common. Other forest types include jack pine, red pine, white pine, black spruce, white spruce, mixed swamp conifer, and black ash. The acres have been divided into three bid items based on geography to make best use of access time. All 350 stands must be visited at least once. In addition, at least 105 stands (30%), totaling at least 2,398 acres (d0%) must be visited a second time. The contractor will choose which stands to survey a second time, based on criteria identified in the Statement of Work. All surveys should occur between May 15 and September 15, in 2026 and/or 2027. At least 3 weeks must pass between consecutive surveys in a stand.
All surveys must be completed by September 15, 2027. All results and completed paperwork must be submitted by October 15, 2027.
Surveys will follow Ottawa National Forest Botany Program Protocol, i.e. controlled intuitive or meander basis. Survey areas are identified on the included maps for bidding purposes (see Attachments). Additional paper and electronic maps will be provided to the selected contractor(s) at the pre-work meeting, for use in the project. These additional maps will show the survey stands over aerial photography, topographic, and maps, and provide other details such as known invasive plant infestation locations.
Stands shown on the included maps show the approximate size, spatial arrangement, location, and forest types to be included in the surveys. Please provide a price for the bid items. To avoid being awarded more work than can be accomplished within the contract period, quotes may be qualified to limit the maximum number of bid items that will be accepted. To avoid being awarded less work than desired, quotes may also be qualified to limit the minimum number of items that will be accepted. Quotes may also indicate they are on an "all or none" basis. Contractor must sign below and provide all information.
