About this file

This document is a detailed Motor Coach Technical Specifications file for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), outlining comprehensive requirements for procuring 45-foot intercity diesel commuter motor coaches. The specification targets a standard rear-engine motor coach design with specific features including an under-floor luggage compartment, wheelchair lift, lavatory, and a design seating capacity of 50 adult passengers. The document specifies requirements for engine type (Volvo D13 or Cummins X12), transmission (Allison B500), EPA 2021 certification, and performance expectations of at least twelve years or 500,000 miles of service.

The technical specifications cover extensive details across multiple sections including testing protocols, vehicle requirements, electrical systems, accessories, and washroom features. Key technical requirements include electronic stability programming, specific tire and wheel configurations, specialized heating and cooling systems, advanced electrical and passenger information systems, and compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The motor coaches are intended for CDOT's Bustang interregional transit routes, with a focus on reliability, safety, and performance in challenging Colorado terrain, including high-elevation and winter weather conditions. The specification allows manufacturers flexibility in meeting requirements through a deviation request process, ensuring competitive bidding while maintaining high technical standards.
