Minimum Requirements and Additional Information for Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) Fire Suppression Unit, integrated with a Defender 6x6 Utility Vehicle (UTV)

This proposal is for the purchase a 6x6 Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), equipped with an integrated Ultra-High Pressure (UHP) suppression system. This equipment will be used for the suppression of fire scenes and burn laboratory activities, as well as, used for educational purposes (across curriculum areas, including WUI) and for demonstration purposes at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD.

The emerging technology provided by this equipment offers several advantages over conventional firefighting systems to include quicker extinguishment with reduced amounts of water, minimized damage of the fire scenes from water (allowing for a better student experience with the post fire investigation), reduced environmental impact from water runoff and reduced operator fatigue. The ability to use less water on the NFA burn range is important because it creates less runoff and less “extinguishment run-off water” that must be recovered and treated prior to disposal.
