About this file

This document contains a template and guidelines for creating a topological diagram depicting network communication for a federal medical facility. The template provides direction on including elements such as external connections, VPNs, cloud technologies, wireless communication, and medical device connectivity. It also contains a legend identifying color coding and arrows to depict data flow. Standard ports for various medical systems and services are listed. Examples are given for topological diagrams of an ultrasound system and lab analyzer to demonstrate applying the template and deleting irrelevant sections.

The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for a cardiac telemetry and bedside monitoring digital documentation and reporting solution for VISN 12 medical centers. The solicitation number, title, opportunity type, and awarding agency are provided.

Topology Directions Topology diagram must match PPS tab All ports required for use within ACL must be on diagram Legend on template identifies color coding for lines within diagram All arrows must depict communication flow (in, out, bidirectional) External connection (S2S) must note the approved MOU number, all PPS required (external IP will be listed on PPS tab) Depict VPN, Citrix, webex Cloud – if system uses cloud technologies, identify approval number Internal communication within the accreditation boundary must be depicted.

If the devices do not utilize 10.x.x.x, please specify generic ‘192.x.x.x’ or ‘172.x.x.x’ If wireless communication is only within VLAN and does not require VA IP’s through mobile1md please note: wireless communication is internal only If a medical device/peripherals is attached to a workstation, please specify how these devices communicate (i.e. USB, port, IP) exclude keyboard and mouse.
