Scenario 1

NASA Employee International Medical Support
Scenario 1 Response
Yes / NoAssumptions
Is this a basic care transport scenario
Is this an advanced care transport scenario
Will air transport be utilized
Will ground transport be utilized
Is deep venous thrombosis a potential concern for the patient
Will timeliness likely impact the risk of this transport
If scenario is basic care, is it likely that it could escalate into an advanced care situation during or after transport
Could foreign language challenges potentially impact the facilitation of transport—either at the pickup point or at drop off location
Is there any concern about impacts of infrastructure at the pick-up point (e.g., limited communication network or road system if patient is in remote location/country)
Is advanced airway management required for transport
Will ventilator management/oxygenation for duration of mission be needed
Should advanced medication management (anti-seizure meds/intravenous meds) be employed
Will ALS be required
Will it be necessary to have a flight surgeon accompany the patient during transport
Is it reasonable or recommended to have the patient’s family member accompany him/her during transport
Will IV fluid and blood pressure support be needed
Is there a potential for intravenous antibiotic administration to be employed
Will a portable bedside ultrasound be required
Will IV pain control be needed
Will IV medications for dysrhythmia management be needed
Should synchronized cardioversion capability be available during transport
