About this file
This document is a detailed Test Plan for evaluating the BT-200 Beacon Tester for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) airframes. The test plan aims to verify the BT-200's capability to complete Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) maintenance procedure cards across multiple USCG aircraft models (MH-65, MH-60, HC-144, HC-130, and HC-27). The objectives include confirming the device's ability to receive 121.5 MHz signals, decode the 15-digit hex ID, retrieve aircraft/ELT position coordinates, and ensure compliance with Cospas-Sarsat testing guidelines without triggering distress alerts.
The test procedure involves a systematic approach with seven specific steps, including powering on the device, configuring the setup page, initiating the beacon test, and verifying signal reception, hex ID, and location data. The testing will be conducted over three days: one day for preparation, one day for testing procedures, and one day for result compilation and analysis. The plan emphasizes strict adherence to international regulations, such as conducting tests within the first 5 minutes of any hour and avoiding interference with distress alert systems. The ultimate goal is to determine the BT-200's suitability for ELT maintenance across all USCG airframe platforms.

Test Plan for Evaluating ELT Test Set for all USCG Airframes
1. Introduction
This test plan outlines the procedures to evaluate the BT-200 Beacon Tester for use in completing the ELT maintenance procedure cards (MPC) for all USCG airframes.
2. Objectives
To verify the BT-200's capability to complete the ELT test as required by USCG aircraft MPCs, in compliance with the ELT maintenance procedure and international standards.
To ensure the BT-200 can receive signals from the aircraft's ELT, including 121.5 MHz signals, the current aircraft/ELT position (latitude/longitude), and the 15-digit hex ID.
To determine the BT-200’s compliance with Cospas-Sarsat’s guidelines for self-test functionality without triggering distress alerts.
3. Scope
Evaluation of BT-200 ELT test set using the internal antenna to receive ELT information over the air via the aircrafts self-test function.
Testing will involve verifying signal reception, decoding the 15-digit hex ID, and confirming the aircraft/ELT’s position.
4. Equipment
BT-200 Beacon Tester USCG aircraft (MH-65, MH-60, HC-144, HC-130, and HC-27) with a functional ELT system
5. Methodology
The evaluation will follow the steps outlined in the BT-200 Operator’s Manual. The test will verify the following:
Signal reception on 121.5 MHz.
Correct decoding of the 15-digit hex ID.
Latitude and longitude data retrieval.
Compliance with Cospas-Sarsat testing requirements.
6. Test Procedure
Step 1: Turn on the BT-200 Beacon Tester
Press and hold the Power button on the BT-200 for 5 seconds and release to power it on.
Step 2: Launch Beacon Tester Application
Tap the Beacon Tester icon on the device to open the application.
Step 3: Configure Setup Page
Input Mode: Select "Internal Antenna."
Receive Channels: Ensure that 406MHz, 121MHz, and 243MHz are selected.
Receive Mode: Set to “Single Burst.” If an error occurs, switch to "Continuous Mode."
Step 4: Start Beacon Test
Tap the "Beacon Test" button to begin the test.
If using Continuous Mode, ensure to cancel the test after 5 seconds.
Step 5: Verify Signal Reception
Confirm that a check mark appears next to 121, indicating a successful reception of the
121.5 MHz signal.
Step 6: Verify 15-Digit Hex ID
Ensure that the 15-digit hexadecimal ID is displayed and accurate.
Step 7: Verify Latitude and Longitude
Check that the decoded latitude and longitude values match the current aircraft/ELT position.
7. Compliance Verification
Testing will be performed following Cospas-Sarsat guidelines:
The 406-MHz beacon self-test should be activated by a separate test switch.
The self-test does not generate a distress alert in the Cospas-Sarsat system.
Testing will be done during the first 5 minutes of any hour to comply with the 121.5 MHz homing signal regulation.
8. Acceptance Criteria
The BT-200 must successfully display a check mark for the 121.5 MHz signal.
The 15-digit hex ID must appear correctly.
Latitude and longitude values must be decoded and displayed correctly.
10. Conclusion
The test will determine whether the BT-200 ELT test set is suitable for use in completing the ELT maintenance procedure cards on all USCG airframes.
11. Schedule
Test Preparation: 1 day to ensure all equipment is set up and configured.
Testing: 1 day to complete all testing procedures.
Reporting: 1 day to compile and analyze the results.
12. Additional Information
The BT-200 testing process will follow the official Cospas-Sarsat guidelines to avoid any interference with distress alerts.
The test will occur within the first 5 minutes of any hour to comply with international regulations for testing 121.5 MHz signals.
This test plan ensures that all necessary steps are taken to verify the functionality and compliance of the BT-200 Beacon Tester for use with all USCG airframe's ELT maintenance.
