About this file

This is a Statement of Requirements for a federal procurement by the USDA-ARS Coastal Plains Soil, Water, & Plant Research Center.

The requirement is to provide and deliver a complete Deep Core Soil Sampler system mounted on a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV). The Deep Core Soil Sampler must mount on the UTV, sample intact soil cores to a minimum depth of 48 inches, and collect samples into plastic tubes of at least 2 inches in diameter and 48 inches in length. The transport vehicle must be a UTV equipped with a sport roof, windshield, rear poly panel, and front bumper mount tool storage rack, and must be adapted to mount the Deep Core Soil Sampler. Delivery is required to USDA-ARS, Coastal Plains Soil, Water, & Plant Research Center, 2611 West Lucas Street, Florence, SC 29501 within 60 days of contract award. The requirement emphasizes the importance of deep core soil sampling for agricultural research, enabling accurate measurement of soil profile properties, carbon and nutrient storage, and moisture levels to support crop production and environmental quality assessments. A technical point of contact will be designated at the time of award.

Statement of Requirements Project: Deep Core Soil Sampler for Sampling Agricultural Soils

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work:

Provide and deliver a Deep Core Soil Sampler mounted to a Utility Task Vehicle (UTV).

2.0 Background:

Deep core soil sampling is important because it provides complete picture of soil profile physical and chemical properties, which is crucial for making management decisions that not only improve crop yields, but also reduce costs and enhance environmental quality. In agriculture, deep core soil sampling enables accurate measurement of profile soil carbon and nutrient storage, nutrient and moisture levels which helps identify and correct problems below the soil surface that have negative consequences for crop production. The data generated from deep core soil sampling helps determine the effect of anthropogenic treatment of soils compared to pedogenic processes. These data enhance our research programs, especially pertaining to the study of long-term human impacts on dynamic soil properties in agroecosystems.
