About this file

This is a Specifications document for rumen pH boluses for research cattle required by the Roman L. Hruska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC).

The contractor shall deliver 100 Smart Rumen Bolus pH units and 10 Smart ORP (Oxidative Reduction Potential) Bolus units within 45 days after award to USMARC in Clay Center, Nebraska. The pH boluses must measure 130mm x 32mm in size, weigh 180 grams, and maintain an accuracy of ±0.2pH for the first 90 days, declining to ±0.4pH from days 91 to 150. The ORP boluses must have identical dimensions (130mm x 32mm) and comparable weight (~180 grams) and shall measure oxidative reduction potential along with rumen temperature and animal activity. Both bolus types must be compatible with standard bolus gun equipment and transmit data to a base station at least every 10 minutes, with raw data available for download. The specified product is MOONSYST Smart Rumen Bolus pH and Smart Rumen ORP Bolus. The contractor must also deliver a Plug & Play Gateway System within the same 45-day timeframe. The overall research objective is to measure ruminal pH and oxidative reduction potential in beef cattle for up to 90 days to support scientific development and technology solutions for the U.S. beef, sheep, and swine industries.
