About this file

Specifications Summary: Purchase of Sample Grinding and Analysis Equipment

This is a specifications document for a federal equipment procurement by the USDA-ARS requiring the delivery of three integrated systems for sample preparation and analysis in agricultural research. The contractor must provide an impeller grinding mill, a blade grinding mill, and a NIRS spectrometer designed for processing plant, soil, and manure samples to support crop and animal research, forage and small grain studies, animal behavior and pasture studies, and soil health studies. Delivery is required within 180 days of award to USDA-ARS, 105 Carrigan Drive, Patrick Leahy Building Room 212, Burlington, VT 05405.

The impeller grinding mill must process dry samples up to 15% moisture and 10% fat at a grinding rate of 4 g/s with 10,000 rpm impeller speed, capable of handling sample sizes up to 10mm (small inlet) and 40mm (large inlet), producing fine and uniform grist with multiple screen size options (0.3mm through 2mm). The blade grinding mill must handle high-moisture, high-fat, and fibrous samples at 16,000 rpm with grinding times of 2-10 seconds and sample sizes of 30-200ml. The NIRS spectrometer must operate at wavelengths of 850-2500 nanometers in reflectance mode with Silicon and Lead Sulfide detectors, analysis time under one minute per sample, wavelength precision <0.005nm and accuracy <0.05nm, and must include dedicated software compatible with Dell 64-bit Windows 10 Pro computers supporting PLS, mPLS, MLR, and discriminant analysis with real-time outlier detection. All equipment must include specified accessories (sample cups, ring cup holders, cup extensions), safety features (microswitch, motor brake/solenoid), and a minimum one-year full parts and labor warranty with 24-hour technical support response times during normal business hours.
