About this file
This document is a specifications sheet for a fluorescence microscope procurement by the USDA-ARS Houma Sugarcane Research Center. The agency requires an Olympus model BX53 Upright Microscope with Phase Contrast and Fluorescent Observation or a comparable unit, to be delivered within 60 days to the USDA, ARS Sugarcane Research Unit in Houma, Louisiana. The microscope must include specific technical components such as a 5-position Phase Contrast Turret Condenser, fluorite lenses (4X, 10X, 40X), and multiple fluorescent components including a reflected light fluorescence illuminator and specialized filter sets for Dapi, GFP, and TxRed.
The procurement includes a comprehensive warranty of five years for mechanics and optics, and one year for electronics. Facility access requirements specify that no badges or background checks are needed, with contractor employees to be escorted and monitored during work performed Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. The point of contact for this procurement is Krishna D Puri, who can be reached at 985-790-4978 or Krishna.puri@usda.gov. The microscope will be used to investigate pathogen infection mechanisms using fluorescence protein-tagged fungal or bacterial pathogens in sugarcane research.
