About this file

This document is a technical specifications and parts list for a federal procurement by the USDA-ARS of a ZEISS Axioscope 5 upright compound microscope system for transmitted and fluorescent light microscopy.

The USDA-ARS laboratory in Wapato, WA requires replacement of an aging microscope stand that no longer meets operational requirements for high-resolution cellular and structural analyses. The microscope system must be fully integrated, compatible, and operational. To optimize government spending, the laboratory intends to transfer existing high-value fluorescence filter components (GFP, Cherry, DAPI, and low-pass filters) from the current setup to the new system, requiring the microscope stand to feature a standard modular design with an encoded 6-position reflector turret capable of seamlessly accepting these existing filter cubes without modification. The procurement includes 17 line items totaling one complete microscope system with all components: microscope stand with integrated transmitted and reflected-light illumination (white 10W LED with halogen options), binocular phototube, mechanical stage, specimen holder, stage carrier, optical components (stop sliders and reflector turret), achromatic-aplanatic condenser (NA 0.9 H), and six high-performance objectives ranging from 1.25x to 100x magnification (including Plan-Neofluar class optics with M27 thread compatibility). The 100x oil immersion objective includes low-fluorescence immersion oil kit and cover glasses. A 60N-C mount camera adapter is also specified. Shipping and handling must be included at no additional cost (FOB Destination) to the delivery location at 5230 Konnowac Pass Rd, Wapato, WA 98951. All quoted components must be completely compatible with standard microscopy modular components for seamless assembly and long-term operation.

Specifications

Project Title: ZEISS Axioscope 5 upright compound microscope for transmitted and fluorescent light or equivalent

1. Objective and Scope

The USDA-ARS requires the procurement of a high-performance upright compound microscope system equipped for both transmitted and fluorescent light microscopy. The system must meet or exceed the exact technical specifications listed below to support advanced research applications.

All components must be fully integrated, compatible, and form a complete, operational imaging system.

A new high-performance upright compound microscope system equipped for both transmitted and fluorescent light microscopy is required for the USDA-ARS research laboratory in Wapato, WA. Currently, the laboratory relies on an aging microscopy stand that has reached the end of its operational lifespan. The image quality, optical clarity, and mechanical reliability of this existing system have fallen significantly below the technical requirements necessary to conduct precise, high-resolution cellular and structural analyses. To maintain research continuity and ensure data integrity, a complete replacement of this system is urgently needed. To optimize government spending, the laboratory intends to pour over and transfer several high-value components from the existing setup to the new unit. Specifically, the laboratory already possesses a specialized suite of fluorescence filters—including Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), Cherry, DAPI, and specific low-pass filters—which remain in excellent working condition. Therefore, the requested microscope stand must feature a highly compatible, standard modular design (such as an encoded

6-position reflector turret) capable of seamlessly accepting and utilizing these existing filter cubes without requiring modification
