STATEMENT OF WORK

Pixley Wetland Wells

2/8/2022

1. GENERAL:

The Pixley NWR provides 755 acres of high quality wetland habitat for migratory waterfowl and water birds. The refuge relies on 3 deep ground water wells to irrigate and flood the wetlands to provide this habitat. Due to the increased demand in ground water, the water levels at and around the refuge have dropped so much that two of the three wells can no longer pump water. This has severely limited the refuges ability to provide habitat for those migratory birds. The two inoperable wells need to have the capability to pump water again so the refuge can meet the mission of the FWS.

2. SCOPE: For this project the contractor will have to pull the turbine, video the well, determine the size of column pipe, install additional column pipes to drop bowls lower, install additional tube and shaft to match depth of columns, install bowl assembly, and reinstall turbine. In order to drop the bowls and added columns lower, it is the refuge managers understanding that the current bowl assembly and additional columns would have to be a reduced size to make it past the current set up which it reduced at the end.

When the project is completed, each well needs to pump at least 1700-2000gpm. It is highly encouraged for contractors to attend the pre-bid site visit to accurately bid on the project.

3. PLACE/DELIVERY AND PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE: The work will be performed at the Pixley NWR, contact Kern NWR Complex office located at 10811 Corcoran Road, Delano, CA 93215. Work can begin once the Notice to Proceed (NTP) is issued and should be completed by June 30, 2022. We plan on issuing a NTP by approximately March 1, 2022, once the required bonds and insurance is received.
