The Repository facilities include greenhouses that are used for plant propagation, maintenance, and pathogen-testing. The greenhouses are equipped with negative pressure evaporative cooling systems. The cooling system has degraded over the years and requires replacement.

Trees maintained in this structure are held under permits from USDA-APHIS and CDFA and must not be exposed to outside air during the renovation. Greenhouses are inspected for structural integrity on a monthly basis by USDA-APHIS.

6. Scope of Service: The contractor shall provide all professional services necessary for the accomplishment of the contract project and such required services shall be in accordance with requirements as described herein.

The Contractor shall provide services for the following tasks marked by an “X”.

[X] Provide and install all material to complete the project as per project requirements.

7. Background/Project Requirements:

The greenhouses were designed, manufactured, and installed by Conley Manufacturing and

Sales, Montclair, CA. The greenhouses have galvanized frames covered with clear polycarbonate corrugate. The greenhouses (bays A thru D) are contiguous, with a total length of 168 ft divided into separate rooms (4 bays) of 60, 24, 24, and 60 ft lengths. Width of the greenhouses is 36 ft with side walls 8 ft high at the walls, gabled to 15 ft. The cooling system is a negative pressure evaporative cooling system including approximately 144 LF of intake shutter filter medium and framing, 48 motorized intake shutters, and approximately 144 LF of evaporative cooling systems including metal flashings and seals, supported by sidewall girts and J channels at the bottom of the corrugated channels. The exterior of the cooling system is enclosed in a metal frame screened structure to exclude insects and exposure to exterior air.

8. Description of work:

Greenhouse cooling system: Greenhouse A thru D. (See attached photos of Cool

System)

• Demolish and remove existing cool cell system.

• Replace existing cooling system with equal size/capacity.

• Replace 4 columns that are rusted at the top of the footings. Remove surface rust from remaining 11 columns. Apply rubberized waterproofing to all columns to a height 6 in above the top of the evaporative cooling system.

• Install new sidewall girts; evaporative cooling system girts, flashings, seals, gutters (pvc), pads (4 in thick X 30 in high), distribution piping, top cap, and plumbing from cool pads to existing sumps.

• Install new 39 in motorized intake shutters, replace intake shutter filter frames, install new filter medium.

• Clean up work area as needed, recycling as much material as possible.

• Critical notes: Trees inside the greenhouses in each zone must be protected from contact with the outside air until the work is completed and the filter medium has been reinstalled.

Contractor to install plastic barrier wall inside of the greenhouse sections to protect plants from construction work and elements. Isolation of plants from exterior must be inspected and approved by USDA-APHIS before work may proceed.

• Installation must be inspected and approved by USDA-APHIS before final payment.

Inspection will be arranged by Repository personnel. Provide at least 1-week prior notice to arrange an APHIS inspection, for timely inspection.

• Invoices can be approved upon completion of inspection and acceptance by USDA-APHIS inspector.
