Scope of Work

Water Testing

Apalachicola National Forest

General Overview

The method required for testing water samples must comply with EPA and/or State of Florida, Department of Environmental Protection (FL DEP) total coliform bacteriological testing. The fecal method of testing must use total membrane filtration. The FL DEP hold time for samples is 29 hours and most laboratories have a minimum trigger in which samples can be received in order to meet the 29hour FL DEP hold time standards. This minimum should not be less than 8 hours. With exception for Nitrate/Nitrite samples, the testing laboratory should be local and not farmed out to another laboratory (except for Nitrate/Nitrite samples). Hold time should allow agency personnel to deliver drinking water samples the next day before the 8-hour trigger point. Laboratory hours for receiving samples must be at least from 8 AM – 5PM 0800 to 1700, Monday through Friday. The laboratory is to have a facility at which to receive the water samples from the Forest Service that is located within 50 Miles of Wakulla Work Center, 10703 Bloxham Cutoff, Tallahassee FL 32305. The purpose of this geographic proximity to the Forest Service facility is to comply with the 6-hour holding limit for the water samples.
