About this file

This is a Technical Specifications & Salient Characteristics document for a federal procurement requirement titled "FY26 375 SFS K9 8-Stall Dog Transport Trailer."

The Government requires a specialized, heavy-duty, climate-controlled 8-stall dog transport trailer designed to safely house, transport, and evacuate Military Working Dog (MWD) assets in extreme high-heat and high-humidity operational environments. The trailer must feature eight individual canine stalls with minimum dimensions of 29" x 40" x 36" tall, constructed with fully insulated double-wall stainless steel throughout the chassis and body for corrosion resistance and longevity. Each stall must be equipped with heavy-duty welded inner bar doors for dual-barrier security, dedicated drainage holes, and removable rubber floor mats to facilitate rapid sanitation. The trailer requires an integrated active climate control system with a centralized ducted air handler that actively cools each of the eight stalls individually through dedicated ducting, not passive air transfer, along with a temperature alert system for unsafe temperatures. Passive ventilation redundancy must be provided through adjustable louver vents on each door and pop-up roof vents to protect canine life in the event of active climate control failure during transit. The trailer must include low-draw LED lighting in each stall, exterior running lights, high-output rear LED floodlights, heavy-duty stainless steel hardware with tie-out loops on every door, a 2" Bulldog coupler with minimum 2,000 lbs. swivel tongue jack, 15" 6-ply steel-belted radial tires with matching exterior-mounted spare, a 20-gallon onboard freshwater tank, roof-mounted cargo rack, and enclosed storage compartment with dedicated lighting. A minimum 1-year standard commercial manufacturer warranty is required covering the trailer frame, climate control systems, and associated mechanical components.

Technical Specifications & Salient Characteristics Requirement Title: FY26 375 SFS K9 8-Stall Dog Transport Trailer

1. General Technical Description The Government requires a specialized, heavy-duty, climate-controlled 8-stall dog transport trailer to safely house, transport, and evacuate Military Working Dog (MWD) assets. The trailer must provide an integrated, heavy-duty, insulated environment capable of safeguarding high-value canine assets under extreme high-heat and high-humidity operational environments.

2. Technical Salient Characteristics To be considered technically acceptable, the trailer must meet or exceed the following physical, functional, and performance minimum characteristics:

Characteristic Category Minimum Technical Specification Requirements

Chassis & Body Material Heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant stainless steel trailer chassis and body construction to maximize structural longevity and hygiene.

Base Structure & Capacity Eight (8) individual canine stalls featuring fully insulated double-wall construction and heavy-duty welded and framed inner stall dividers.

Stall Sizing Stalls must be at least 29” x 40” x 36” tall and utilize an oversized/large configuration to comfortably accommodate large-breed military working dogs (e.g., German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois).

Climate Control & HVAC Integrated climate control powered by a centralized ducted air handler feeding cooled air through dedicated, direct ducting into each of the eight (8) individual stalls.

Dual-Barrier Security Heavy-duty, welded inner bar doors on all eight (8) stalls to ensure secure, double-barrier containment when outer solid doors are opened.

Auxiliary Ventilation Adjustable ventilation designed for all-weather travel, including adjustable louver vents on each exterior stall door and pop-up roof vents to ensure continuous passive airflow.

Sanitation Infrastructure Dedicated, individual drainage holes in each of the eight (8) stalls paired with removable, heavy-duty rubber floor mats to facilitate rapid washdown and sanitation.

Illumination System Low-draw LED lighting integrated inside each individual canine stall, standard exterior running/clearance lights, high-output rear-facing LED floodlights, and dedicated lighting in the interior storage compartment.

Hardware & Tethering Heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant stainless steel door latches and hinges, with exterior-mounted tie-out loops on every door for secure canine tethering.

Towing & Mechanical Heavy-duty 2" Bulldog coupler, a minimum 2,000 lbs. capacity swivel tongue jack, and heavy-duty 15" 6-ply steel-belted radial tires (including a matching, exterior-mounted full-size spare tire).

Onboard Utilities Integrated 20-gallon freshwater tank for on-demand canine hydration, and a heavy-duty, roof-mounted luggage/cargo rack with secure tie-down points.

Warranty Requirement Minimum of a 1-year standard commercial manufacturer warranty on the trailer frame, climate control systems, and associated mechanical components.

3. Comprehensive Engineering & Material Specifications

3.1 Materials & Structural Integrity

• Base Frame & Skin: heavy-grade aluminum framework with stainless steel skin inside and outside construction to maximize corrosion resistance, structural rigidity, and heat reflectivity.

• Insulation: Fully insulated double-wall construction across all exterior panels, ceilings, and floors to minimize thermal transfer from external environments.

• Dividers & Gates: Framed and welded inner stall dividers must be structurally rated to withstand impact forces from active 90+ lb. working dogs. Stalls must feature heavy-duty welded inner bar doors.

3.2 Climate Control & Air Handling System

• Active HVAC System: The trailer must feature an integrated, active climate control system powered by an onboard or shore-powered ducted air handler.

• Ducting Grid: Air conditioning must be actively ducted into each of the 8 stalls individually, ensuring uniform temperature distribution. Cooling must not rely on passive air transfer between stalls.

• Temperature Alert System: alarm for notification if any kennel is reaching unsafe temperatures for the dog’s health.

3.3 Passive Ventilation & Safety Redundancy

• Chassis Vents: Each door must feature adjustable louver vents to control passive airflow.

• Roof Ventilation: Pop-up roof vents must be installed to release rising hot air.

• Redundancy: The combination of pop-up roof vents, door louvers, and inner bar doors must allow for safe, passive airflow to protect canine life in the event of an active climate control power loss or mechanical failure during transit.

3.4 Drainage & Sanitation

• Drain Holes: Each individual stall must feature a dedicated gravity-drain hole placed to prevent pooling of fluids or cleaning chemicals.

• Mats: Removable, heavy-duty rubber floor mats must be provided for all 8 stalls.

Mats must be slip-resistant, non-porous, and easily sanitized.

3.5 Towing & Chassis Requirements

• Coupler: Standard heavy-duty 2" Bulldog coupler.

• Jack: A minimum 2,000 lbs. capacity swivel tongue jack.

• Tires & Wheels: Minimum 15" 6-ply steel-belted radial tires, accompanied by an exterior-mounted, matching full-size spare tire.

• Road Safety: Full exterior safety and running lights, plus high-output rear-facing

LED floodlights to support safe loading and unloading during night operations.

3.6 Storage & Onboard Utilities

• Water System: A built-in 20-gallon freshwater tank to provide on-demand hydration for the canines in remote locations.

• Storage Area: An integrated, enclosed storage compartment with dedicated lighting to house canine gear, veterinary supplies, and tactical equipment.

• Luggage Rack: Roof-mounted, heavy-duty cargo/luggage rack.
