Salient Characteriscs F-35 Lightning Protecon System

The F-35 Lightning II requires protecon for aircra assigned to Ebbing Air Naonal Guard Base (ANGB) at home staon from environmental impacts, specifically lightning hazards. Although the aircra are equipped with an On-Board Inert Gas Generang System (OBIGGS), the aircra inert procedures require me, personnel, and resources to purge the aircra fuel system in a mely manner. Addionally, flightline aircra shelters may not be available for any of the locaons, thus the need for a Mobile Lightning Protecon System (LPS) is required for sustained aircra operaons.

Minimum salient characteriscs are:

- Supplied with a grounding cable that is a minimum of 50 feet in length and a wire gauge of 2/0 AWG.

- Withstands exposure to rainfall at a rate of 1.4 inches per hour, winds up to 120 mph without being fastened to the ground, and ice acceleraon of up to 3 inches.

- Operates and stored at temperatures of negave 60 degrees to 160 degrees.
