About this file

This document details salient characteristics for an Abrasive Cutting Machine (Waterjet) with extensive technical specifications. The machine requires a bridge-style rigid mounted X-Y-Z Axis Water Jet Machining Center with a minimum 20' x 10' cutting envelope, PC-based Windows 11 controller, and specific performance capabilities including +/- 0.0010" linear positional accuracy, 180 in/min travel speed, and a 50 hp direct drive pump system operating at 60,000 PSI. Additional requirements include a 600lb Bulk Abrasive Delivery System, water level controls below 80 dBA, terrain following function, programmable solids removal system, and Ethernet capability.

The procurement includes 12 seats of stand-alone controller software, 2200 lbs of garnet abrasive, machine start-up and assembly, and a 3-day onsite training class for up to 5 students. The machine must be shipped pre-assembled and factory-tested, capable of installation on floors with up to 1" planarity error, and include free transportation. Future accessory capabilities are also specified, including a taper compensation head, multi-axis cutting head, submersible rotary axis, pneumatic drill head, precision laser locating device, and a digital optical camera system with reverse engineering capabilities.

Abrasive Cutting Machine (Waterjet) Salient Characteristics

Machine minimum requirements:

• System must be new

• Bridge-style rigid mounted X-Y-Z Axis Water Jet Machining Center

• PC based controller with Windows 11 operating system as required by DoD security directives

• User friendly CAD Controller Interface with Bluetooth keyboard

• Minimum X-Y cutting envelope 20’ X 10’

• Programmable Motorized Z-Axis with .016" nozzle with minimum Z axis travel 8” or 6” with tilt function

• Minimum Linear Positional accuracy +/- 0.0010”

• Minimum repeatability +/- 0.0010”

• Minimum travel speed 180 in/min

• Minimum 50 hp direct drive pump system

• Minimum 1.20 GPM 60,000 PSI Max Operating Pressure

• Manage output pressure by inverter

• Water level controls for quiet/clean submerged cutting (below 80 dBA)

• Minimum 600lb Bulk Abrasive Delivery System that transports garnet from the assembly's large hopper into the Mini Hopper located on the Z-Axis

• Rigid scissor-style hard plumbing containing high-pressure components, as well as contributes to a smaller footprint, lower maintenance, and higher reliability

• X, Y, & Z Drive systems fully enclosed sealed against water, dirt, and grit.

• Terrain Following function that attaches directly to the jet nozzle head allowing automatic cutting of all parts from materials with irregular or warped surfaces.

• Programmable solids removal system providing control over abrasive evacuation rate and duration to efficiently remove garnet from the abrasive waterjet catcher tank. Must also be capable of programable reverse flow cycles to agitate garnet in waterjet catcher tank. Must also be automatic and have more than one unique aspiration zone.

• Low pressure water location beam capable of providing a cut-free visual reference of where the jet stream will begin cutting and material alignment on the cutting bed.

• Ethernet capability

• Provide Initial 2200 lbs. of garnet abrasive

• 12 seats of stand-alone controller software that operates without network connections and can generate either 2D or 3D tool paths from 3D models. UPGRADES to the controller and software will be free for life of machine.

• Machine start-up to include assembling any components, leveling machine, and initial operational

• 3-Day onsite training class of up to 5 students to include programming, operation, maintenance and pump rebuild.

• Shipped as a completely pre-assembled and factory-tested system

• Must be able to install on floor that has a potential planarity error up to 1” for equipment area of 11’ x 26’

• Free transportation/ shipping to our facility.

Water Jet Machining Center MUST have the capability to add future accessories/modifications

Taper compensation head for taper free edges Software-controlled multi-axis cutting head with a cutting range from 0° to 60° Fully submersible powered adjustable high torque rotary axis for 6-Axis 3D machining Adjustable Z-axis Pneumatic drill head specifically designed for the waterjet environment. Allows repeatable piercing of laminates and composites prior to abrasive waterjet cutting and accurately pierces small diameter holes in thick material

Precision Laser locating device capable of providing a visual reference of where the jet stream will begin cutting and material alignment on the cutting bed

Digital Optical Camera System with direct interface to controller software that can accurately measure parts to within 0.001”. Must also be capable of reverse engineering of existing components/parts and automatically generate cutting program.
