About this file

This document is a Brand Name Justification for the purchase of 8 L3Harris Portable XL-185P radios and support equipment to support training courses at the 368th Training Squadron at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The radios will be used to enable student interactive learning and support realistic field operations and communication between instructors, students, and range safety operations.

The justification states that the United States Army only allows L3Harris radios to operate on their frequencies, encryptions, and signals at Fort Leonard Wood, so there are no alternative vendors that can be used. The 368th Training Squadron does not foresee needing to purchase additional radios in the next 5 years, but will monitor the market for any new products that could preclude future brand name procurements.
