DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

359TH TRAINING SQUADRON, DETACHMENT 1 (AETC)

MEMORANDUM FOR 82 CONS/PKA

FROM: 359 TRS Det 1/CC

SUBJECT: Brand Name Requirements Justification

Description of the Supplies/Services: Squadron student seating furniture is required to replace damaged, worn, and outdated furniture. These chairs will provide a professional appearance and promote innovation in learning.

Efforts to Obtain Competition: To maintain product continuity and expand on the previously purchased seating, we selected the KI furniture brand. A thorough review of GSA eBuy confirmed that only K can provide the Ruckus Chairs trademarked design. These chairs are not on the chair

BPA.

Market Research: To the best of our knowledge, KI is the only known brand name that is available that meets the requirement standards for expanding the already existing chair design sought IAW FAR 8.405-6(a)(1)(B) and FAR 8.405-6(a)(1)(C).

Other Factors: We choose the chairs based on several different factors. Experience has proven these chairs to be both sturdy and of high quality. The construction materials of the chairs could be easily cleaned and sanitized. The undercarriage book rack allows for storage of personal belongings without blocking walkways and paths. The rollers provide an easy way to move the chairs without harming the flooring underneath. The multi seating option opens the classroom up for discussion and collaboration. The back/arm rest allows 360-degree seating changes with minimal to no effort. The shape of the back can also provide a mobile rest for study materials or for writing notes during these collaborative experiences.

A Statement Of The Actions, If Any, The Agency May Take To Remove Or Overcome Any Barriers To Competition Before Making Subsequent Acquisitions For The Supplies Or Services Required. After reviewing other sources of furniture, only K meets the seating function ability desired in our training environment. The Government’s best interest is to reserve this requirement for the K brand name. There are multiple vendors that distribute K Ruckus chairs.
