About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for construction services to replace boardwalks at the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge near Gulf Shores, Alabama. The project involves removing and disposing of approximately 910 feet of existing boardwalks (BW1, BW2, BW3) that are over 20 years old, rotten, and unsafe. The work will be conducted in four phases: submittals, permitting, demolition and construction, and final inspections and close-out. The contractor will be responsible for obtaining necessary permits, marking boardwalk areas, clearing vegetation to a 12-foot width, and following specific environmental protection guidelines.

The project has a 180-day period of performance starting after the notice to proceed, with potential extensions for weather-related delays. The work site is located on Hyde, Bayboro, and Muck soils with surface muck varying from 18" to 74" deep. Key requirements include minimizing trail closures (maximum two business days per trail), protecting native flora and fauna, cleaning equipment to prevent introducing exotic species, and following U.S. Forest Service clearing standards. The contractor must coordinate with the Refuge Manager, submit electronic submittals, and comply with all specified environmental and safety regulations.
