Project Thompson Guard Station restoration disinfection/cleaning
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
Restoration and cleaning service for Thompson Guard Station (Thompson GS). The cabin sustained water damage, and due to its long service in the woods, there are hantavirus concerns. Prior to the Forest Service commencing renovation of the interior, Forest Service is soliciting a vendor to finish the remaining wall demolition (60 percent of total wall area), clean the entire interior, treat with an anti-microbial agent against hantavirus, apply mold/mildew stain remover to the walls, deodorize the interior, clean the interior, remove all debris to appropriate waste facility.
2.0 Background
Thompson GS is located in the Big Belt Mountain Range on the Townsend Ranger District in Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The cabin is a rustic rental cabin for the public. There is no electricity or running water at the site. The cabin is a one-level structure approximately 43 feet x 21 feet in size with walls of 8-foot height, with three common rooms, an entrance room and one small storage room.
The Woods Creek fire of 2021 caused structure protection activities to be implemented at Thompson GS. These activities included placing sprinklers around the cabin to keep the surrounding vegetation wet and less flammable. These sprinklers were unfortunate placed adjacent to the cabin and put on a 360-degree turning radius. The cabin siding is metal; however, it is a stick-built structure and not impervious to water. The water soaked through and damaged the insulation, sheet rock and paneling. The Forest Service has done some of the demolition (40 percent of wall board and insulation) and will be renovating the interior of the cabin. Prior to the Forest Service renovation work, the Forest Service is soliciting a vendor to finish the wall demolition (60 percent), clean the entire interior, treat with an anti-microbial agent against hantavirus, apply mold/mildew stain remover to the walls, deodorize the interior, clean the interior, remove all debris to appropriate waste facility.

Access to the cabin during the summer months (June through September) is good and can be reached by driving through White Sulphur Springs. From White Sulphur Springs, travel west on Highway 360 for 1.6 miles. At this point, make a sharp curve to the right off the highway. There is a Forest Service sign at this junction that reads: Gipsy Lake 14, Townsend 44. Go straight onto the gravel road for 6.5 miles. At 6.5 miles, the gravel road forks at the entrance to a ranch. Stay to the right. As you drive the next 7.5 miles to the Forest boundary, the road will become more primitive.
Within a quarter of a mile of the Forest boundary, a sign for Thompson Station will direct you to the right onto Forest Road #383. Take Forest Road #383 for 0.6 miles to a sign that will direct you to the left, and to a gate to the station.
