About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details the procurement of a Quickset Gimbal system for the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). The gimbal system is required to support multiple physics and optical engineering courses, with specifications including a minimum payload capacity of 1200 lbs, pan and tilt range of motion of ± 200° and 180° respectively, precise speed control (0.001° to 20°/second for pan, 0.001° to 4°/second for tilt), and IP67 environmental rating with an operating temperature range of -30°C to +55°C.

The contractor must deliver the gimbal system within 6 weeks of contract award to AFIT at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The procurement includes full responsibility for transportation, loading, unloading, and onsite setup. Payment terms are 100% upon completion of all requirements, processed through Wide Area Work Flow on a net 30 basis. The system comes with a two-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship, and will directly support over a dozen courses in AFIT's optical engineering and applied physics programs by providing a mechanism for exploring practical applications of learned skills.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Quickset Gimbal

09 October 2025

1.0. BACKGROUND: AFIT owns over $9M in exquisite hyperspectral, multispectral, and high speed remote sensing instruments used for both classroom projects and student research.

Many of these instrument have very strict requirements for motion stability in order to collect the highest quality data. This gimbal system is designed to provide that stability as well as high precision pointing control. This system directly supports over a dozen courses in both Optical Engineering and the Applied physics program by providing a mechanism to explore the practical application of skills learned in these programs. The system also provides a unique capability to support teaching activities in a variety of AFIT's Physics and Optical engineering classes including, PHYS-542, OENG-780, OENG-651, OENG-650, OENG-533, OENG-530, OENG-647, OENG 616L, PHY521, METG-644, PHYS-799, and

PHYS-999.PHYS-542, OENG-780, OENG-651, OENG-650, OENG-533, OENG-530,

OENG-647, OENG 616L, PHY521, METG-644, PHYS-799, and PHYS-999.
