The Contractor may be required to do any of the following items. Aerial, skidder, handheld ground injection of herbicides, mechanical site preparation, or planting pine or hardwood seedlings. The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, tools, herbicides, seedlings, and supplies necessary to accomplish the assigned work by the government point of contact.

Herbicide Application

The Contractor may be required to apply a mutually agreed upon formulation to do any of the following items. Aerial, skidder, or handheld ground injection of herbicides. Aerial applications will be directed at either promoting a site preparation burn or pine seedling release. For the burn, aerial application of herbicide should be sufficient to brown vegetation to ensure a quality site preparation burn. Aerial application for pine release should be timed to promote the survival of the pine seedlings while ensuring a uniform kill in competing vegetation. All aerial applications will be done with the advanced coordination of the Barksdale Control Tower. Skidder application of herbicides will occur in mature stands of pine timber. This application is intended to remove the hardwood understory in these stands. Applicators will need to take extra precaution to ensure a unifo1m and consistent coverage in the stand. For Handheld ground injection, the herbicide will be injected into each tree or seedling.

The contractor shall supply the herbicide for the vegetation control. Expected results and warranty criteria are a minimum of 90% kill on the target species. Contractor operations must be in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations. The herbicide must be applied in accordance with manufacture's label instructions. Herbicide application is considered a professional service. The herbicide shall be applied by trained and certified personnel with current Louisiana Dept. of Agriculture and Forestry certification for herbicide application. Waiver or permits that may be required must be current, and copies provided to BNR prior to herbicide application.

The contractor will be responsible for proper disposal of empty containers and waste. No mixing, storage, or disposal of chemicals on Barksdale AFB will be permitted. The contractor must have a spill prevention kit on hand to accommodate the volume of chemicals per tank contents. All precautions are to be taken to minimize or eliminate herbicide spray drift.

Mechanical Site Preparation

The contractor may be called out to mechanically prepare the planting sites. The contractor shall uniformly prepare the plantation by ripping and subsequently bedding the site. The contractor shall use a bulldozer of adequate size and horsepower to accomplish the task. The contractor will only be required to make one pass over the site to rip/bed it. The minimum rip depth should be 18". All work will comply with Louisiana State Forestry Best Management Practices.

The contractor will have the equipment operator contact Barksdale Natural Resources prior to commencement of work. At this time, all oilfield and base infrastructure will be delineated to avoid any damage to it.
