About this file

This Statement of Work details the requirements for one Optical Intensifier needed by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT/ENY) to amplify incoming light for an existing Shimadzu HPV-X2 camera, particularly for studying hydrogen combustion and detonation which primarily emits UV and IR radiation.

The technical requirements specify a minimum 5 MHz sample rate, exposure capabilities down to 25 ns (with 3 ns exposure available), F-mount adapter compatibility, 25mm minimum intensified output, integrated gate controller, Windows-compatible software, and dual stage gen 3 GaAsP phosphor. The device must be UV-compatible with lens range of 35-85mm and have a footprint smaller than W160 × D330 × H260 mm. The contractor must deliver the system within 12 weeks of award to AFIT at Wright-Patterson AFB, provide a 1-year warranty, and comply with Buy American requirements under DFARS 252.225-7001.

STATEMENT OF WORK

FOR

OPTICAL INTENSIFIER

Title: Optical Intensifier

Document Date: 21 MAR 2024

This document covers the purchase of One (1) Optical Intensifier for AFIT/ENY

1. Background: The Air Force Institute of Technology requires an optical intensifier to amplify the incoming light to be more detectable to an existing Shimadzu HPV-X2 camera. These are often used in conjunction with narrow band pass filters to allow chemical specific wavelengths to pass at a higher intensity to the camera. The Optical Intensifier is used like a camera lens, but it amplifies the incoming light to be more detectable to the camera. One of the primary reasons this is needed is due to fundamentals of burning Hydrogen. Typically, the combustion or detonation of hydrogen results in nearly no visible light, but primarily UltraViolet (UV) and Infrared Radiation (IR)electromagnetic emissions. Studies are done on the combustion of Hydrogen because the use of other fuels is often publication restricted. To "see" the Hydrogen detonations better, a UV compatible intensifier is needed to gather as much light, and therefore data, as possible.

2. Minimum Technical Requirements:

a. Minimum 5 MHz sample rate

b. Exposure down to 25 ns

c. 3 ns exposure available with speed offset acceptable

d. F-mount adapter to attach to existing high-speed camera

e. 25 mm minimum intensified output

f. Available with integrated gate controller

g. Windows compatible software

h. Dual stage, gen 3 GaAsP phosphor

i. Self-protected from over exposure and damaging the intensifier

j. UV optical access for reaching OH ion emission

k. UV lens compatible

l. Lens range of 35 to 85 mm available

m. One 136-degree Vickers indenter tip

n. Overall footprint smaller than Shimadzu HPV-X2 camera. W160 × D330 × H260 mm

3. Qualifying Country Products: All products proposed/delivered to satisfy these requirements shall be either domestic or qualifying country end products in accordance with DFARS 252.225- 7001. Buy American and Balance of Payments Program.

4. Delivery: The contractor shall deliver a complete optical intensifier system with shipping F.O.B.

to the following address;
