About this file

This document outlines requirements for a statement of work for ductwork installation and laboratory exhaust systems. The USGS St. Petersburg Science Center requires installation of two roof-mounted blower motors with PVC ductwork to connect new fume hoods. A canopy exhaust hood, ductwork, and inline fan must also be installed to vent a laboratory device. The contractor must install the blower motors supplied by USGS, fabricate and install PVC ductwork, and fabricate/install a galvanized steel exhaust hood and duct with fan. Work must be completed within 30 days of the notice to proceed. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number 140G0123Q0213 from the Department of the Interior USGS Office of Acquisitions and Grants to provide the ductwork installation and laboratory exhaust systems.

Statement of Work

The USGS St Petersburg Science Center requires the installation of two blower motors and the purchase and installation of PVC duct work to evacuate chemical fumes from newly installed ICI Scientific Isolator fume hoods, and the purchase and installation of canopy exhaust hood, ductwork, and inline fan. All installations will be in second-floor laboratories located in the Getting Building, 600 4th Street South, St Petersburg, Florida. This purchase request is for (1) the roof-top installation of the blower motors supplied by the USGS which will include all necessary electrical connections for the blower motors to the building power supply and the fume hoods, (2) the fabrication and installation of PVC duct work connecting existing fume hoods to the roof-mounted blower motors, and (3) the fabrication and installation of galvanized steel exhaust hood and duct with an inline exhaust fan.

Blower and Duct Work Requirements:

The two newly installed fume hoods are ICI Scientific Isolator Series models F-100-72G5 and F-100-96G5.

An exhaust system is required for the fume hoods consisting of a roof-mounted blower and ductwork connecting the fume hoods to the blowers. The fume hoods are located in a second-story laboratory and will exhaust through the roof directly above the laboratory, ceiling height in the laboratories is ~16 feet. Attached to this Performance Work Statement are the specification sheets for both fume hoods.

The F-100-72G5 fume hood is 72 inches wide and 30 inches deep with a 12” diameter duct collar of 18 Ga 304 stainless steel. The F-100-96G5 fume hood is 96 inches wide and 30 inches deep with two 10” diameter duct collars of 18 Ga 304 stainless steel. There is a 10” diameter roof opening approximately centered over each fume hood. A remote blower is required to be installed on the building roof directly above each fume hoods. The USGS will provide the required blowers. The blowers are Central Blower Co. (centralblower.com) 1/3 HP model FC-111 and 1/2 HP model FC-112. A face velocity of 100 CFM is required with the sash opening at 18 inches for each fume hood. It is the responsibility of the installer to transport the blowers from the ground-level receiving area to the second story roof prior to installation.

A 240V electrical connection is available at both blower installation sites on the roof.

Duct work for the fume hoods must be Type 1 PVC. The duct work will feed through an existing 10-inch opening in the building roof. All work shall be completed within 30 days from the date the Contractor receives the notice to proceed (NTP).

A 30” x 30” galvanized steel canopy exhaust hood is required to vent exhaust fumes and odor from a piece of laboratory equipment. The bottom of the canopy hood will ~34” above a 36” high x 30” deep workbench. New galvanized steel duct work is needed to vent the exhaust hood through an existing 3” diameter roof opening. The roof top is directly above the laboratory room, ceiling height in the laboratory room is ~16 feet. An inline exhaust fan with back draft damper and speed controller (comparable to a Loren Cook model GN-148) is required to be mounted with the ductwork. A vent cap is required to be installed over the roof-top opening to prevent backflow and weather intrusion. The vendor is responsible for the electrical connection of the fan including a wall mounted on/off switch at a height easily accessible to laboratory users. The removal and disposable of the existing 3” and 4” ductwork will be the responsibility of the vendor.

Any proposed alterations required to the existing roof openings must be coordinated with the USGS prior to scheduling installation.

Shipping and delivery:

Products shall be packaged adequately to prevent damage to the equipment during shipping, delivery, and installation. Any component with visible damage will be rejected at delivery. Replacement of any components damaged during shipment or installation are the responsibility of the vendor. Installer shall unpack components which they supply and be responsible for removing any packaging waste or refuse from the work site, leaving the area clean of debris. Trash containers shall be provided by the customer as requested by the installers. It is the responsibility of the installer to transfer the motor, duct work, and any installation components from the on-site receiving location to the workspace which is on the second floor and roof of a two-story building. Access to the roof is from the second-floor interior of the building via fixed ladder and roof hatch.

Vendor is to provide date of ductwork arrival to customer for adequate scheduling of laboratory down time after receiving the notice to proceed. Vendor will coordinate with on-site building manager and appropriate USGS staff on all facets of the installation.

Installation:

Requirements for room preparations must be stated clearly in writing and delivered to the Government by the pre-construction kick-off meeting.

Assembly and installation of all components shall be done by the vendor. Indicate in writing if installation is to be performed (or potentially be performed) by a third-party installer. If a third-party installer is used, please provide the name, address, and outline of qualifications of the installer.

Installation shall include the following:

Motor installation, duct work installation, electrical hook-up, determination of assurance of proper air flow. The blower and housing must be securely mounted to the roof. All required electrical connections must be completed at the time of installation. Electrical housing must be weather-proof. Electrical connections must meet all applicable electrical codes. Duct work must be installed to minimize elbows and angles, providing the most direct route for fume exhaust. Duct work must be angled to prevent pooling of condensation within the duct work. Duct work must be tested after installation to show zero leakage. Leakage testing results will be provided in writing.

A written warranty shall be provided for work and materials that provides for replacement for manufacturing defects, discoloration, cracking, leaking, warping, welding, or structural failures, and for improper electrical connections.

All installation and all work shall be completed within 120 days of the award date.
