5.0 Background & Site Description:

The Northern Great Basin Experimental Range (NGBER) is managed by the ARS Range and Meadow Forage Management Unit. NGBER covers approximately 16,000 acres of sagebrush steppe rangeland and is grazed by cattle during the spring and summer months. There are several residences on the property that are used seasonally by researchers when they are conducting research at NGBER. This is convenient, saves travel cost, and increases safety as NGBER it is an 80 mile round trip drive from our Burns office complex.

Two of the residences share a common septic system that has recently malfunctioned, is at the end of its service life, and needs to be replaced. This is a very remote area with very few septic installation companies within a 100 mile radius (See Location Map in section 8.0).

6.0 Description of Work

Work will involve replacement of the septic system shared by two adjacent residences at NGBER (see Residence Map in 8.0 below). The current tank is metal and has corroded to the point where it is not usable and will need to be replaced. Sewer lines from each house to the septic tank will also need to be replaced. The leach field and associated pipe will need to be replaced. Below is the report of completion and drawings for site plans from the previous installation, including a diagram with distances.

7.0 Specialized Requirements

It will be the contractor’s responsibility to obtain all necessary county and state permitting and to arrange for and pass a final inspection from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. All work must conform to Oregon Administrative Rules, Chapter 340.
