Statement of Work
Project Name: Pole Barn Extension
Location: Panther Swamp NWR – Yazoo County, MS
Asset Number/RPI: 10073116
Description of Work:
Work for this project involves a contractor completing construction of two lean-tos added to an existing 43 foot X 39 foot pole barn on Panther Swamp NWR. Location is approximately 11.0 miles from Yazoo City, MS and slightly outside of Louis, MS. Site location is only accessible from Highway 149/16. Construction site is located in Yazoo County, MS. Map is provided.
Drawings provided are not to scale and only represent approximations of finished building dimensions. The Contractor shall verify existing conditions.
Material provided by US Fish and Wildlife Service includes gravel graded to the proper elevation and slope to accommodate construction equipment and proper working conditions.
Current pole barn is constructed on concrete posts with three metal trusses spanning the main area, wooden 2”x10” roof joists on 30” centers. Metal ribbed panel roof is attached and gable ends finished with metal. Six concrete posts are set that support three metal trusses. These trusses will be built out by attaching new trusses via welding to create lean-tos. Photos are attached for reference only.
Contractor/vendor to construct and install 6 metal trusses attached to current pole barn. Metal trusses will attach (welded) to current trusses and span 20 feet (current pitch is unknown). Metal trusses are set on 18’ 6” centers. Metal trusses shall be supported by and attached (welded) to 6” steel pipe (posts) and attached to new metal trusses that follow existing roof pitch. Posts shall be set at a minimum of 3 feet below current grade in 12’ diameter holes and. Each hole (6) will need to be backfilled with concrete to properly secure posts from moving and supporting the roof load. Approximately 2.35 cubic feet of concrete will be needed per hole.
Metal trusses shall be fabricated from 3” steel pipe with ¾” cold rolled steel rod cross bracing (similar to existing trusses) (see photos). Brackets welded to 3” steel pipe truss shall be constructed from 2x2” angle iron for properly attaching wooden 2”x10” roof joists. Brackets approximately 8” high and set on 30” centers. Each truss will require welded brackets for mounting 2”x10” (nominal size) lumber to connect trusses and attach metal roofing material.
Welding shall be inspected by and approved by a certified welder. See representative drawings for more details.
Lumber will run perpendicular to metal trusses and set on 30” centers. Lumber must be drilled and attached to welded brackets using stainless or hot dipped, approved bolts, nuts, and washers.
Lumber for roof joists (boards/nominal size measuring 2”x10”x24’) will be needed to span trusses and provide for overlap and overhang. Overlap is approximately 2-3 foot, and overhang is approximately 1 foot. Overlapping lumber shall be drilled and attached using bolts, washers, and nuts, minimum of 4 bolts per connection. Once trusses and wooden lumber is installed, 29 gauge ribbed panel metal roofing must be installed. Gray/tan color is preferred and must match current roof color. Metal roofing shall have minimum 30 year manufacturer’s warranty.
Installation to follow manufacturer’s guidelines such as properly torqued screws with neoprene washers. Sheets shall be approximately 23 feet long (from connection of current roof joist to eave), allow for at least 1 foot overlap and overhang, and cover the entire lean-to roof span.
Gable ends (rakes) to be capped with similar 29 gauge metal to protect boards.
One bay on each side must receive 2”x2” angle iron cross bracing (see representative drawing).
There are no bathrooms on-site. Contractor to furnish all temporary facilities and utilities as needed including heat, light, power, telephone, sanitary facilities, job offices, material handling equipment, temporary construction aides, and storage enclosures.
One year warranty required on all work.
Summary: Contractor is responsible for the complete construction and installation of 6 trusses, roof joists, and completion of roof. All materials for roof, equipment, quality control, disposal, and labor required to perform these tasks are the responsibility of the contractor. Contractor and US Fish and Wildlife Service to inspect work daily and record progress on daily log. Site representative to approve all fasteners (nuts, bolts, screws, and all-thread) prior to purchase and installation. Color and ridging of metal roof must be approved prior to purchase and installation.
US Fish and Wildlife Service to provide site representative Monday through Friday, except federal holidays.
Contractor shall design in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and Local codes and regulations (latest edition at the time of contract award) with the following establishing the minimum requirements:
A. International Building Code, latest edition B.OSHA Regulations (Federal and State).
Before work begins, the contractor shall coordinate with local utility companies to locate and protect all utilities traversing the Project.
The contractor shall install and maintain barricades and warning devices as necessary to safeguard the public, workers, and government personnel.
All construction debris and/or demolished materials will become the contractor’s property and shall be removed from the site and disposed of in a legal manner.
