About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details the acquisition of a high-output neutron generator for the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson AFB. The document specifies requirements for a neutron generator capable of producing 1 × 10^10 neutrons per second, with key performance standards including output stability, live time over 95%, and operation at room temperature. The generator must be compact (less than 1.5m length, 0.5m width/height, and under 100kg) and include ancillary equipment such as control electronics, a target heat exchanger, roughing pump, and control computer.

The procurement includes on-site installation assistance, training for two people, and a one-year maintenance contract covering part replacement, performance confirmation, and potential hardware/software upgrades. The vendor must complete all requirements within 8 months of contract award, with delivery to AFIT/ENP at Wright-Patterson AFB. Payment is 100% upon full completion of requirements, processed through Wide Area Workflow on a net 30 basis. The solicitation is a sole-source intent to award to Adelphi Technologies, with responses accepted until 3:00 PM EDT on 3 April 2025.

STATEMENT OF WORK

High Output Neutron Generator

4 February 2025

1.0. BACKGROUND: A neutron generator uses the fusion of either two deuterium atoms or a deuterium and tritium atom to output neutrons at high energy. High-output generators are capable of providing up to 1E10 neutrons per second. A source of neutrons with this output allows for a greater capacity for measurements during research and academic courses due to lower required measurement time. Additionally, the neutrons that are generated are high energy neutrons and allow for a wide range of study from spectrum identification to radiation hardening experiments. The capabilities provided by this generator is of great interest to other organizations who could provide funding for research projects.

The direct benefit of this generator is to students in the following NENG courses:

NENG612 - Nuclear Engineering Laboratory NENG650 - Nuclear Instrumentation NENG812 - Advanced Nuclear Engineering Laboratory
