PERFORMANCE-BASED WORK STATEMENT
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. Sleepers River Research Watershed (SRRW) in Danville, Vermont, is operated from the USGS Vermont office.
B. Background: SRRW was established by USDA in 1957 with 16 concrete streamgage gages. USGS Vermont started work there in 1991, jointly with the US Army Cold Regions Research Engineering Laboratory (CRREL). USGS operated/revived 4 of the existing 16 gages, the remainder had been unused and neglected since the 1970s.
CRREL left the site in 2000.
C. Definitions/Applicable Documents: Not applicable.
D. Scope: An inspection in May 2022 revealed hazardous conditions at some of the unoccupied gages, including broken windows and missing gage house doors. Most of the sites were secured by USGS in June 2022, including covering all broken windows and replacing doors and/or covering door openings. Two conditions were not able to be addressed by existing USGS staff and equipment: (1) a failing foot bridge spanning the stream from the right bank to the gage house at W-7; and (2) structurally compromised gage house at W-11, with gaps developing between some of the cinder blocks.
II. WORK REQUIREMENTS

Directions to Job sites:
W-7. This site is in the lower part of the small village of N. Danville, Vermont. From Rt. 2, just west of its intersection with I-91 near St. Johnsbury, VT, turn right on to N. Danville Rd. and follow it about 3 miles to the village. The footbridge to be removed is visible on your right as you enter the village.
W-11. About one mile toward N. Danville village from Rt. 2, turn right at All Right Spring on to Goss Hollow Rd. Immediately you cross Sleepers River and take a hard right on Old Prue Rd. Follow Old Prue Road a little less than a mile. W-11 is on the left about 100 yards before you climb up to the “T” intersection with Crepeault Hill Rd. There is a pull off for parking on the left, you may want to turn around at the intersection and come back down. The gage house may be difficult to see through the trees down in the narrow valley but it is not too far from Old Prue Road. This site will require clearing of some small trees for access; the landowners say to clear the easiest way to get in.
