About this file
This is a Statement of Need for procurement of a dual source laser engraver by 60 MXS at Travis Air Force Base. The equipment will be used to part mark, trim, and drill 3D printed polymer aircraft parts.
The required system must include dual laser sources—a 120-watt CO2 laser (air-cooled, 10.6 micrometers) and a 50-watt Fiber laser (air-cooled, 1064nm wavelength)—capable of processing materials up to 12.25 inches in Z-depth with a minimum work area of 48" x 36". The system must achieve engraving speeds of 165 inches per second with 5G acceleration or greater and support user-controlled resolution up to 1200 dpi. Motion control requires high-speed brushless DC servo motors with rotary encoding. The equipment must include an integrated dual overhead camera system for real-time work area viewing and accurate artwork placement, along with compatible software supporting Windows 7/8/10/11 with job management, print interface, drag-and-drop functionality, and live preview capabilities. Additional connectivity requirements include Ethernet, USB, and wireless options, with minimum 1 GB onboard memory. The system must feature a built-in air assist system, be Class 2 laser certified, and include three minimum exhaust ports (two upper, one lower) with 735 CFM or greater ventilation. Power requirements are 200 watts with auto-switching 220v-240v, 17 amp draw, and 20 amp wall plug. The contractor must provide a one-year Basic Customer Care Plan warranty and include all freight, handling, and labor charges. Delivery is required to 350 Ragsdale BLDG 803, Travis AFB, CA 94535, with TSgt Joshua R. Rowe, Aircraft Metals Technology NCOIC, as the point of contact at (707) 424-5026.
