Statement of Need
For
60 MXS/MXMTA
The 60th Maintenance Squadron/Wheel and Tire shop has a requirement to assemble/disassemble multiple types of aircraft wheels to include C-17, C-5, and KC-46 main and nose wheel assemblies. To perform this task, we use a heavy-duty ramp to raise the wheel and tire off the ground to be more ergonomic. A simple holding fixture loosely holds the wheels in place during maintenance. The C-5 fleet is also undergoing a conversion to a new generation of wheel that requires special equipment to assemble while standing vertically. The current ramp and holding bar are insufficient to complete this task safely. Having the ability to safely raise and lower these assemblies to varying heights is mandatory going forward.
