2.0 APPLICABLE LAWS and INDUSTRY STANDARDS
The trailer furnished under these specifications shall conform to all the requirements of all Divisions and Chapters of the following publications:
1. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, Federal Highway Safety and Department of
Transportation.
2. California Motor Vehicle Code
3. A plate identifying the manufacturer, tire weight, gross vehicle weight rating, date of manufacture and all other information as specified in the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, Section 114, and Federal Code of Regulations, Title 49, shall be attached to the trailer frame or body in an easily accessible location.
3.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
3.1 General:
The equipment shall be new and latest model in current production by a Manufacturer who has a minimum of 2 years of experience building similar equipment. The equipment and any accessories shall be a product of good workmanship and shall be free from any defects that will affect their appearance or serviceability. The trailer shall be delivered as a turn-key product, fully functional and ready to operate:
3.2 Dimensions:
• Interior Length: 32 feet (± 6 inches)
• Exterior Width: 8.5 feet (+0 inches; -2 inches)
• Exterior Height: 13.5 feet (max.)
• Interior Height: 104 inches (min.)
• Payload: 55,000 LBS (min)
• GVWR: 65,000 LBS (min)
3.3 Construction: The refrigerated trailer shall be the manufacturer’s standard construction with an aluminum duct floor with a non-slip surface for traction. Side panels may be aluminum or stainless steel. The trailer shall be adequately insulated to minimize heat transfer through walls. Construction shall be of all new material free of rust and any defects. The finished product shall be free of dents and warpages. The trailer shall be equipped with the following:
• Manufacturer’s standard landing gear
• A lockable rear roll-up door with safety release
• One lockable side-access door located on the curb side of the trailer at approximately 8.5-ft back from the inside nose of the trailer. Side door shall provide a minimum 80” x 36” opening. Door shall swing outward equipped with door stops and door holding devices, steps, and grab handles.
• 22-inch (minimum) Scuff band/wear band: All around the interior and shall be located from the floor up.

• E –track: Located along the interior side walls at approximately 30 inches and 50 inches above the floor.
• Chain hangers underneath the trailer as close to the center of the trailer as possible
• Charging outlet inside trailer, at rear of trailer to charge electric pallet jack. Pallet jack uses standard three pin style 110 plug.
Auxiliary AC power at 120 volts in a trailer so that AC devices can be powered while on the trailer. In this application, the AC power allows a device such as an electric pallet jack to be charged while the truck is driving between stops. It keeps the pallet jack at a high state of charge, so it stays functional during the hours of operation.
This trailer-based system receives DC power from the tractor via the dual pole power cord. If mounted on a straight truck, it receives DC power from the tractor batteries. TAPS converts DC power to 120-volt AC power and is managed by a smart inverter that will not turn on until it sees a DC input of 13.2 volts.
Once the inverter turns on, it will stay on until the voltage drops below 12.4 volts for 30 seconds, or until the voltage drops below 10.5 volts. Once the inverter turns off, it will not turn back on until the voltage again reaches at least 13.2 volts.
• Reflective safety tape on both sides and rear of trailer.
3.4 Refrigeration System: The trailer shall be equipped with a Thermo King Refrigeration unit or equivalent. The refrigeration system shall be equipped with a cycle-sentry unit capable of keeping the interior compartment at a constant minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit with an ambient temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside. The system shall be diesel operated with a minimum 50-gallon fuel storage tank.
Engine shall be equipped with the required California Emissions Certification and shall meet the .01 PM standard set by the State of California Air Resources Board and meet all current federal and state emissions requirements.
3.5 Lift Gate: The trailer shall be equipped with a rear mounted lift gate to allow lifting capability of heavy cargo to and from the trailer when a dock is unavailable. The lift gate shall be electro/hydraulic and shall be the rail/column type with folding capability. The platform shall fold in half and fold up when not in use. Lift gate shall be rated a minimum of 6,500-lbs.
with minimum platform dimensions of 84-inches x 80-inches. Platform shall be equipped with 16-inch-wide minimum ramp. Lift gate shall allow platform to be lowered out of the way for dock loading applications.
3.6 Paint: The trailer shall be painted the manufacturer’s standard white color. All surfaces to be painted shall be prepared in accordance with the paint manufacturer's recommendations to provide maximum paint adhesion. The finish coat shall be free from runs, drips, sags, etc., and shall be evenly applied to provide a gloss finish.
3.7 Axle:
The rear axles shall be single reduction tandem axels, with a minimum GAWR of 34,000 LBS pounds for the axles, springs, wheels, tires, and brakes. Tandem axle shall be equipped with a slider for adjusting the axles forward and backward.

3.8 Brakes: Trailer shall be equipped with air brakes.
3.9 Wheels and Tires: Wheels and tires shall be manufacturer’s standard tubeless type radial tires mounted on OEM approved 22.5-inch diameter rims. All tires and wheels shall be identical (i.e., no cross brands or models). All tires and wheels shall be properly balanced.
The wheels and tires shall have a combined minimum load capacity to meet the GAWR of the trailer. Three (3) spare tires and wheels shall be provided. One (1) spare shall be mounted underneath the trailer, curb side. Other two (2) spares can be delivered loose in bed of trailer.
3.10 Suspension: Trailer shall be equipped with air-ride suspension. The air-ride system, in addition to the trailer body construction, must allow the trailer to achieve a floor height of 48-inches from level ground. A dump valve shall be provided.
3.11 Towing Connection: Trailer towing connection shall be the fifth-wheel type connection.
American Trucking Association (ATA) air-connector ports and a prong trailer light connector wired according to Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) and ATA standards shall be included.
3.12 Electrical: Minimum electrical equipment shall comply with all Federal Motor Vehicle, Safety Standards and State of California Department of Motor Vehicle regulations.
Notwithstanding any Federal or State minimum requirements, each unit shall be equipped with two (2) taillights, two (2) stop lights, and turn (left and right) signals. Adequate size gauge of wire to the lights shall be used in accordance with SAE standards for distance from power source and load demand. The wiring shall be secured to minimize sagging or abrasive movement. Tail, stop and side marker lights shall be LED.
The trailer body shall also be equipped with a minimum of four (4) Permalite XB LED. 2200 lumen output interior dome lights or equivalent, installed throughout the interior of the van body for proper lighting. Lights in the rear shall be unobstructed by the rear door when in the open position. Light switches (2 each total) shall be installed in the interior of the van body.
