About this file

This is a Specifications document for a federal procurement by the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Pullman, Washington location.

The USDA-ARS is requesting one elutriator unit for extracting weed seed from soil seedbank samples to support research conducted by the Pacific Northwest Herbicide Resistance Initiative. The equipment must be capable of processing 48 samples simultaneously for high-throughput extraction and shall include at least 96 sample strainers with a 50-micron mesh to prevent loss of small seeds. Additional requirements include a rinse device for removing seeds and debris from strainers, an approximately 100-liter collection tank for water and sediment, and wheels for mobility and maintenance access. The unit must be delivered and installed to Vogel Plant Biosciences Building, Room 325, 410 SE Dairy Road, Pullman, WA 99164 within 90 days after receipt of order (ARO). The delivery point of contact is Olivia Landau, Research Weed Scientist.

The quote must include installation, assembly, a standard commercial warranty, general user training, and availability of routine maintenance support. This is a single-unit procurement for commercial laboratory equipment intended to accelerate soil sample processing from months to weeks, enabling researchers to conduct stakeholder-driven research on weed seedbank and herbicide-resistant weed management.

Quantity: 1

Unit Type: Each

Minimum Requirements:

The USDA, ARS, Pullman, WA location is requesting one elutriator for quickly extracting weed seed from numerous soil seedbank samples. This equipment will be located in the New USDA-ARS Plant Bioscience Research Building Pullman, WA, and will benefit multiple units participate in the Pacific Northwest Herbicide Resistance Initiative. To accurately estimate the amount of weed seed within the soil seedbank, hundreds of soil samples need to be collected and processed. An elutriator is an efficient method for seed extraction, and it allows for extractions that would normally be accomplished in months to be completed in a matter of weeks. This equipment allows for researchers to conduct stakeholder-driven research involving weed seedbank management and herbicide-resistant weed management.

Requirements:

• Must be able to process 48 samples at a time to achieve high-throughput extraction

• At least 96 sample strainers must be included

• The sample strainers need to have a very fine mesh of 50 to ensure small seeds are not lost

• A rinse device must be included to remove seeds and debris collected on the inside of the strainer

• The collection tank for water and sediment should be approximately 100 L
