About this file

This document is a Requirements/Specification Document for a Long Distance Phase Compensated Modular 2-Port Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) needed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The required VNA system must have a 1 MHz to 43.5 GHz frequency range, support fully reversing 2-port S-parameter measurements, operate at distances up to 100 meters, and provide magnitude and phase information. An example product meeting these specifications is the Anritsu ShockLine Modular 2 port PhaseLync VNA model ME7869A043. The document also provides details on additional required items such as cables, calibration kits, and software. This is a sources sought notice to identify potential vendors, both small and large businesses, that can provide the required VNA system. NIST will use the responses to determine if a small business set-aside opportunity exists prior to issuing a solicitation.

Requirements / Specification Document

TITLE: Long Distance Phase Compensated Modular 2‐Port Vector Network Analyzer

Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group: 672.02

Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division Radio Frequency Fields Group (672.02)

General Statement of Need:

The antenna metrology project at NIST requires procurement of a long‐distance, distributed, modular 2‐port vector network analyzer (VNA) with 1 MHz to 43.5 GHz frequency range and option for phase compensated operation tested to 100 meters distance that can measure the magnitude and phase of all four s‐parameters, S11, S22, S12, S21.

The following features are required for this procurement:

• Distributed VNA system composed of two phase‐synchronized 1‐port VNAs that permit direct connections to the device under test (DUT) with no extra amplifiers necessary to correct for phase issues.

• Permits direct connection to the DUT at a maximum of 100 meters without test port cables to address cable IL and phase issues.

• System must have available option that enables vector synchronization over long distances up to 100 meters.

• System must operate at a maximum of 100 meter distance with magnitude and phase information.

• System synchronization maintained over long distances up to 100 meters.

• Supports fully reversing 2‐port S‐parameter measurements S11, S22, S12, S21.

• Operation over 1 MHz to 43.5 GHz frequency range. VNA must provide a frequency reference to both port units.

• Power range ‐50 dBm to 0 dBm.

• Distributed single‐port VNA units must provide measurement handshaking and acquisition control.

• Only one power supply for the system is required.

• Only one USB from Control module to PC required.

• VNA control software with GUI supporting Embedding/De‐Embedding installed on

PC.

• Cables and VNA software option for 50 meter operation.

DRAFT

• Coaxial calibration kit for DC to 43.5 GHz, Type K female connector.

• Phase stable 1 meter test port cables, Type K male and female connectors.

• Support for software and external source triggering.

• Driver control compatibile with LabVIEW and MATLAB programming environments.

• GUI supporting Distributed Modular 2‐port Vector Network Analyzer with

Embedding/De‐Embedding.

Additional specifications are tabulated below:

Typical 2 Port High Level Noise
