About this file
This is a Requirements/Specification Document for frequency comb lasers from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Communications Technology Laboratory, Radio Frequency Technology Division.
NIST requires two ultrafast fiber laser systems to synchronize to external RF and optical references for RF generation and detection exceeding 300 GHz. Item 1 is a 780 nm ultrafast fiber laser with a 100 MHz repetition rate, featuring selectable free space output at either 780 nm with >250 mW average power or 1560 nm with >500 mW average power, both with <100 femtosecond pulses. The system must include 1 MHz repetition rate tuning via fast piezo cavity control with low-noise slow locking (temperature or motor-based), continuously variable output power split between the two wavelengths, three or more auxiliary PM fiber outputs at 1560 nm delivering >1 mW, an electro-optic actuator for locking with ultrastable optical reference lasers, active temperature stabilization, and operation on 100/115/230 VAC with <500 W consumption. Item 2 is a 1560 nm ultrafast fiber laser with identical repetition rate and tuning specifications, delivering >500 mW average power in free space at 1560 nm with <100 femtosecond pulses, plus three or more auxiliary PM fiber outputs and the same actuator, temperature stabilization, and power requirements as Item 1. Both items must be new equipment with manufacturer performance verification prior to shipment. Delivery is required by January 1, 2027, to NIST-Boulder (325 Broadway, Boulder, CO 80305, Mail Stop 672.01, Attention Nate Orloff). Vendors must possess an Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) and an active Unique Entity Identification Number (UEI) registered on SAM.gov at time of award. Acceptance is not expected to exceed 7 business days. Base manufacturer warranty is acceptable, and the document indicates no special training, installation, calibration, maintenance, electronic media, facility/utility, or travel requirements.
