Specifications BRAND NAME OR EQUAL Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless Imaging Components, Lenses, and Accessories

Background/Introduction

For the purpose of understanding the anatomical differences among insects our laboratory takes high resolution images. Many of the insects we work with range in size from 0.5 mm to 60 cm. The insects, in many instances have a shiny surface and photographing them is challenging. These insects are not flat and in order to get an accurate representation of their anatomy and color multiple images have to be taken in sequence at different planes through the insect. As part of our work, we must visit other insect collections and photograph those specimens, therefore, portability is very important.

Scope With this acquisition we expect to be able to provide publication quality images of insect specimens. The following industry standards must be followed:

- High-resolution, focus stacked, macro/micro imaging

- 3D scanning and modeling

- 1080P/high speed (60 fps) video in lab and field settings

- Fully portable

- Translational and rotational stages to move the specimen relative to the camera mount

- Compatible with Mitutoyo microscope objectives (lenses)

Objectives The end results will be used to inform stakeholders about potential new and established insect pests. The results will represent, in most cases, the first public view of these insect pests.

General Requirements Photographic apparatus that creates focus stacked images of a specimens of varying sizes from 0.5 mm to 60 cm long. Portable and packable. Able to generate 3D images and movies. Utilizes reflected, transmitted, polarized, and cross-polarized lighting methods. Can resolve details less than 0.4 microns in color.

Image Requirements Our requirement is for a photographic apparatus that creates extended focus stacked images of an insect specimen ranging in size between 1-50mm. Specific requirements include:

1. Must include a rigid longitudinal member with a longitudinal axis that includes translational and rotational stages that are designed to move the specimen relative to the camera mount. An extendable universal stage for pinned and point mounted specimens to be consistently centered using a manual gimbal. The stage includes a base that can be added or modified to other rotational stages

2. The translational device allows for the precise positioning and panoramic style imaging. The rotation device allows for the specimen to be rotated 360° around a first axis that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis to generate 3D movies and point clouds that can be used for 3D printing and as visual aids for research and educational purposes.

3. Additional wireless flash systems compatible with our existing Macroscopic Solutions Macropod systems (e.g. Godox Wireless Flash 4 Flash Head).

4. Flash diffusers to reduce/eliminate glare from highly reflective samples.

5. Portable platform that can be easily transported and carried into the field using a backpack.

6. Mitutoyo infinity-corrected lenses in multiple magnifications compatible with existing Macroscopic Solutions Macropod systems.

7. Ability to image specimens from horizontal or vertical orientation of photographic apparatus.

Delivery Upon payment, the system must be delivered no more than 2 weeks later. Packaging and Shipping: must be in self-contained compartmentalized carrying case.

Government Furnished Property None needed. This is equipment.

Data Requirements Manuals for camera setup and operation including settings to obtain the best lighting with the system.
