About this file
This is an attachment containing specifications for corn double haploid production services sought by the USDA ARS Corn Host Plant Resistance Research Unit in Mississippi State, MS. The government requires a service provider to generate 500 double haploid (DH) corn inbred lines from F1 seeds using haploid inducer technology, which involves using a maize line as parent pollen to induce haploid seeds, identifying haploids through marker gene expression, treating with doubling agents for genome duplication, and field transplantation.
The contractor must have proven experience in corn haploid services and meet specific performance requirements including generating a maximum of 5 seeds per F1 plant and delivering all doubled haploid seeds within 15 months of receiving the F1 seeds from the ARS Principal Investigator. The place of performance is at the SEA Corn Host Plant Resistance Research facility located at 810 Highway 12 East, POB 5367, Mississippi State, MS 39762, with technical point of contact Jovan Haynes at Jovan.haynes@usda.gov. The contractor must also meet planting target dates and purity requirements for the double haploid lines while returning DH seeds to the USDA ARS.

Attachment 1 - Specifications
Corn double haploid production services
I. BACKGROUND
The USDA ARS Corn Host Plant Resistance Research Unit in Mississippi State, MS is seeking a double haploid technology provider to generate 500 double haploid (DH) corn inbred lines from
F1 seeds submitted by the USDA ARS. The Double haploid approach is based on the use of a haploid inducer maize line that could induce haploid seeds when used as parent pollen. Then, haploids are identified through the expression of a particular marker gene, germinated, treated with an exogenous doubling agent to induce genome duplication, and transplanted to the field.
II. REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a proven track record of successful corn haploid service and be able to meet our planting target dates and purity requirements of the double haploid lines.
- Must be able to generate 500 double haploid (DH) breeding lines from F1 seeds submitted by the ARS PI and return DH seeds to the USDA ARS and must generate a maximum of 5 seeds per F1 plant.
- The service needs to deliver seeds of all the doubled haploids produced within 15 months upon receiving the F1 seeds.
