The Contractor shall ensure that the coating is compatible with coating materials and existing substrates. All seams shall be filled, to a smooth finish, with a compatible sealer to ensure a uniform and watertight seal.
Installation Methods
• Coatings must be mechanically mixed thoroughly before and during application as identified in the manufacturer’s specification.
• Do not apply if there is a threat of rain within 24 hours, or the period of time as identified in the manufacturer’s specification.
• Thirty (30) days must elapse before the Acrylic top coat is applied to ensure proper cure of the material. The Contractor will demobilize from the site between the application of the clay emulsion roof coating and the acrylic top coat.
3.3 Acrylic-based Top Coating
The Acrylic-based Top Coating must be rated for exterior use and be compatible with the existing substrate and primers. There shall be no thinning of the product to aid in application or extend coverage of material.
Application
• Pressure Wash roof with Cleaner compatible with acrylic coating as identified in the manufacturer’s specification.
• Application shall only be done in the time available so that all applied material has sufficient time to dry to the touch (tack free time) before any rain or ambient moisture contacts the surface.
• Application should be completed when air and material temperatures are between 40
°F and 120 °F.
• Application shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s specification, by roller, brush, or spray.
• A uniform coat shall be applied over entire surface, avoiding excessive rolling, and/or brushing.
• Application at penetrations should be done as to not leave any voids or bubbles.
• Application of coating shall follow manufacturer’s specification and be applied in sufficient thickness and quantity to meet the material specifications and Manufacturer’s warranty.
3.4 Storage and Disposal
All materials used for cleaning, priming, and coating the roof shall be stored in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification. All debris generated, empty or used containers, application tools, etc. shall be disposed of by the Contractor in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation and applicable standards.
3.5 Protection of Equipment
Necessary measures shall be taken as needed to prevent dust, dirt, debris, cleaners, and coatings from falling in or on any exposed machinery or machinery controls.
3.6 Protection of Aluminum
Aluminum surfaces shall not directly contact other metals except stainless steel, zinc, or zinc coating. Where aluminum contacts another metal, paint the dissimilar metal with a primer followed by two coats of aluminum paint. Where drainage from a dissimilar metal passes over aluminum, paint the dissimilar metal with a non-lead-pigmented paint.
3.7 Protection of Applied Roofing
At the end of the day's work and when precipitation is imminent, protect applied roofing system from water intrusion.
3.8 Correction of Deficiencies
Where any form of deficiency is found, take additional measures as deemed necessary to determine the extent of the deficiency and perform corrective actions as directed by the Contracting Officer.
3.9 Clean Up
Remove debris, scraps, containers and other rubbish and trash resulting from installation of the roofing system from job site each day. Following completion of the work, remove debris, equipment, and materials from the site. Restore existing facilities in and around the work areas to their original condition.

3.1 Preparation
Damaged sheet metal shall be repaired by using pop rivets. Sheet metal patches shall be painted 14 gauge carbon steel.
Measure a piece of sheet metal for the repair with a measuring tape. Mark the dimensions and shape using a metal scribe. The patch will overlap the spot to be repaired by at least 2 inches.
Cut the sheet metal along the scribed lines using a handheld, rotary cutting tool equipped with a metal-cutting wheel.
Place the repair sheet metal over the damaged area. Hold firmly in place and drill the appropriate size hole thru both layers of metal using a drill fitted with the required size drill bit for the pop rivet to be used.
Place the long stem of a rivet into the pop rivet tool die. The die diameter must be the same as the stem diameter. The stem will not be loose once inserted into the tool if the die is correct.
Insert the rivet into the drilled hole through each layer of sheet metal. Ensure the rivet is fully seated up to its shoulder. Maintain inward pressure and squeeze the tool handle until the stem breaks free from the rivet.
Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5 for the remaining rivets required for the repair. The amount of space between rivets depends on the work. Typically, a distance of 1 to 3 inches is sufficient for most repairs.
